Hi - I've got my 12 week scan this week, but the letter doesn't really contain any information. This is my second pregnancy so I remember some things but am not sure.

Do I need to take a urine sample?
Anything else?

And how long did it take (excl. time in the waiting room). I'm having all the tests too (Nuchal etc.).

Thanks!

Hi I had to drink 1 half litres of water 1 hour before scan and not pee for an hour before . The scan took 30 mins and I had Nuchal fold test . I had to take a urine sample . I had my bloods done after too . Good luck Smile

My very recent 12 week scan was abdominal, so no need to drink loads of water. They will give you a sample pot to wee in if needed. The actual scan was about 20 mins, then had to have bloods done, then a combined result was given to us after a bit of a wait. I had a midwife apptment too. All in all I was there for a good couple of hours.

eeek - couple of hours! However I am not having a MW appt. and also I think here they send you the nuchal results in a letter. Thanks so much for the tips -- I will go needing a wee and then ask!

I had my booking in on Saturday, like you OP second preg so not asking as many questions, equally not remembering as much as I'd expected to.

MW did say that 12 weeks scan could be transvaginal as well as abdominal if they couldn't see what they needed to, but I think this is in case you've got your dates wrong and baby is smaller on account of not actually having reached the 12 week milestone IYSWIM.

Last time nuchal results took two weeks to come through, doubt you'd have to wait two hours if you need to rush off.

In an ideal world, you should have a bladder that's almost-but-not-quite full for the scan - it makes it easier for the sonographer to see your uterus as it is 'pushed' upwards by the pressure of your bladder. But being overfull, annoyingly, can make it harder as everything gets squashed!

The rest depends where you are, I think. I saw a MW briefly afterwards for a urine test, bloods and a quick chat, but that was it. Whole appointment was probably 45mins once it got started, but had a bit of a wait for the scan. I would take a bottle of water with you, just in case - discovered once I arrived that getting hold of water at my hospital was a nightmare!
