Low lying anterior placenta

Had 20 week scan today and was told I had a low lying placenta, when looking at my notes it says 'placenta covering os' she didn't seem to concerned but booked me in for extra scans. Does anyone have any experience of this? I wasn't too worried until I looked it up and it started talking about bed rest, bleeding and premature labour!! Advice would be appreciated xx

Hi, I also have a low lying placenta. I'm not worried (yet). They said it should move up. If I have any bleeding I just need to go straight to the hospital. I have a growth scan on Friday - 24 weeks - as I have gestational diabetes. Looking forward to seeing my baby x

I had this at my 20 week scan and got booked in for another scan at 32 weeks. I had a privat scan on Saturday at 30 weeks and am still completely covering the os. No one has said to me about it being a problem although I do keep getting told horror stories about people ending up in hospital for weeks before the birth. I'm planning for a c-section so that if I get anything else it will be a bonus. Don't read too much or you will send yourself mad.

Hi I had low lying anterior placenta, at 20 week scan, had a bleed at 33 weeks placenta still hadn't moved, so had to stay in hospital.

Had a scan at 36 weeks and its now moved.

It's nothing to worry about just a risk of bleeding and if you do it can be quite heavy. But most will move up by the time your due. X

Most of the time they move up out if the way which is why you have a late scan to check the position. I had low placenta first time around which moved up, but second time it was low again and very near the os and was still there at 36 weeks. My only option was an ELCS because it's too dangerous to have a vaginal delivery with the placenta in the way. You also have risk of bleeding later in pregnancy and could end up on bed rest, but I didn't get that at all. Just had my ELCS which I wasn't looking forward to, but it was fine. Good luck, hopefully your placenta will move up and all will be ok.

In what to expect when youre expwcting it says that most of them move, and 1 in 200 from the 20 week scan require a csection. I had an extra scan at 32 weeks, it hasnt moved as much as they would like, so another scanning in 3 weeks. Thats all i have.

Hi OP - Me too! I posted exactly the same thing last week following our 20 week scan and thankfully some of the lovely ladies who have commented here also helped me with my worries. Could do with some more advice though..... Sorry if tmi but if your placenta is low lying would you expect to feel quite sore/swollen down below . I'm sure I had this in my last pregnancy but not as early as this so don't know if its becuase theres extra pressure????? Also should I be avoiding sex? Despite being warned not too I did do a little bit of google research and read something that said sex should be avoided????
