Morning all Smile

I'm 9wks pregnant today and have been suffering from constipation.

on Saturday i had really bad trapped bowel wind, i was doubled up and when I lay down I couldn't get back up again.

i consulted dr google and found out about peppermint tea and went straight out and got some - the relief was almost instant - after half a cup it was starting to move out - DH was very impressed (!)

i had another cup yesterday morning and another one this morning and I feel like a new woman - I'm pooping like a champion and the bloating is almost completely gone! !

has anyone else tried it - and do you reckon it's okay? my pregnancy paranoia has led me to google futher (something that makes me feel so good has got to be bad for me or baby) and nearly everywhere says it's fine - just one site says it can relax the uterus and cause miscarriage.

do you think it's okay? i don't intend to have more than one cup a day when i need it - its even helped the nausea and when i burp, its minty!

I'm feeling guilty and worried about feeling good Confused

I drank loads of peppermint tea at the beginning and it helped. I also recommend prune juice if you find it stops working which happened to me.
peppermint tea is totally fine and has no caffeine so drink away (although too much can result in opposite problem .)

Congratulations on your baby and hope you have a great pregnancy. sorry for poor spelling and grammar in this my phone makes it hard to go back

Thank you so much for replying Smile that's made me feel much better. i keep forgetting about prune juice when I'm doing my shopping. i used to eat 3 prunes in semolina once a week in primary school - i vividly remember the taste, but I will try anything!! Grin

and yes - I'll give Dr Google a break Grin

thank you xx

Lots of peppermint here too. Also find porridge everyday helps!

I lived on peppermint tea for the first few months as I suddenly couldn't stand normal tea. I wouldn't worry about it - whatever makes you feel better!

I've always mainlined the peppermint tea and didn't stop when I got pg. Three cups a day here and no problems. Enjoy.

My midwife said she can’t see any reason why peppermint tea should be avoided during pregnancy. It helps to soothe morning sickness or an upset stomach, and drinking two or three cups a day is fine. However, peppermint tea may worsen heartburn, a problem many women experience later in pregnancy. When shopping for peppermint tea, look for products containing 100% pure peppermint leaves. To brew the tea, steep a peppermint tea bag in a cup of hot water for three to five minutes.
Alternatively, you can also try peppermint candies, but be aware as pregnant women are more prone to mouth cavities.
