Could I be pregnant 7 week after my miscarriage?

Hi all,

I'm new to these turnings but wanted some advice after trying to find answers as very confused right now.

I had a suction removal of my 8 1/2 week angel 6 1/2 weeks ago. I bled for about 4-5 days and had a scan after a week which showed everything was going back to normal. I had a little bit of tissue left but not much and this came out a day later because I had bad cramps and past a final big clot before the bleeding finally subsided. We were due to go on holiday 4 weeks later so I took a pregnancy test to see if it was negative but it came back positive. I thought this could be still due to HCG hormones in my system, and then 4 days later (first day of our holiday) I had a lighter period on and off over 4 days so thought that I mustn't be pregnant. I had taken a second pregnancy test on holiday with us just incase, and 6 days after my period thought id take it to make sure it was negative, but I still had a very faint positive show up. Still confused at this point but thought that because it was fainter than the previous one it must still be some hcg in my system. I am now 14 days post period and I took a digital pregnancy test yesterday (out of curiosity) and amazingly it has come back positive at 1-2 weeks pregnant!!!!! I took another today and still the same! Surely this still can't be my hormone from the previous pregnancy because I've had a period and it's nearly 7 weeks post D&C? I'm not getting my hopes up because it could be still but I'm not sure what to think!!!! I have an appointment at the EPAU tomorrow at their miscarriage counselling clinic following my last pregnancy and I was hoping they'd do some blood tests as this is our 3rd miscarriage now, but I keep getting period like twinges but it's pretty specific around my left and right sides. I'm thinking that what I thought was my period may have been implantation bleeding? Never has that with my previous pregnancies but now I'm questioning if it was a period at all. It was a lot lighter, it stopped more than it flowed, and was either a watery bright pale red or a darkish colour like the end of my period.

Any advice would be great guys. Thanks heaps in advance!!!! X

I got pregnant with DS2 within a couple of weeks of a miscarriage. It was a huge and lovely surprise. I've been told it happens all the time - your hormones are all over the place and you can be super-fertile. Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you swampster. The fact I bled the exact time I would expect a period is just confusing me but I guess my body is all over the place at the minute. X

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages Thanks

It must be a really confusing time for you. I had a missed miscarriage in May/June which i allowed to pass naturally, resulting in 6 weeks bleeding in all. I'm now pregnant again (15 wks) and the doctor calculated i must have conceived a few days after the last clot and bleeding stopped, literally 2 or 3 days. Everything looks good so far so I'm crossing my fingers for a smooth pregnancy and a March baby!

I really hope you get the answer you're hoping for but it does sound like an early scan/blood HCGs would be the only way to know for certain! Best of luck xxx

Sorry about your loss Thanks

It could have been implantation bleeding. I fell pregnant 6 weeks after my son was born, unfortunately baby didn't stay and then I fell pregnant 10 weeks after. That baby didn't stay either and it took me 6 months to fall pregnant again. This baby has stayed though :)

Thanks ladies. Took another digital today and it's still saying pregnant at 1-2 weeks which makes sense if it was implantation bleeding. I just hope if it is a new one that it sticks! Confused

Do you think the lines on the pregnancy tests are getting darker now? I think you will need doctor/EPAU confirmation to be totally sure what is going on, but it could very well be a new pregnancy. I lost my baby earlier this year at 12 weeks, and got pregnant again 6 weeks later (currently 23 weeks and all looking good so far)
Wishing you all the best!

Thanks GailLondon. To be honest I've been taking the clearblue digital tests so I'm not able to check the line colours. I'm off to my EPAU this afternoon so will see what they say. I do keep getting cramps though and pressure around my womb x

How did you get on OP

Sarahlouisa1983 · 29/09/2014 16:30

Just back from the hosp. They she taken bloods for my HCG levels and will tell me tomorrow if they want me to have another on Wednesday depending on what they are. They are also resting for my clotting and other tests to see if there is any reasons for our miscarriages (this is our 3rd). We also had our little angel tested for any chromosome abnormalities and they came back normal but we found out we would've had a little girl Sad the midwife seemed quite positive about a new pregnancy but I'm not getting my hopes up xxx

The clear blue digi tests come apart so you see a strip inside it.

Sarahlouisa1983 · 29/09/2014 16:53

Oooooo didn't know that. I'll check. Thank you heaps!!!! X

Thanks guys. I've heard the like should get darker the further along you go but not sure if that is the same for the digital predictor kits. It's so easy to over think these things! Only my blood test will tell us for real. Midwife will be phoning me tomorrow late morning to let me know either way x

How did you get on this morning OP?

Sarahlouisa1983 · 30/09/2014 17:28

Hi guys. So just spoke I my EPAU And they don't think I an pregnant, or if it is I'm a threatened miscarriage maybe but they didn't say much because they want to speak to a consultant tomorrow. The clearblue said I was 1-2 weeks pregnant, but my HCG levels taken yesterday have come back at 16 and my progesterone is only 2.5. Ok asked if it could be retained tissue and she said it could be but she will phone me tomorrow and let me know the plan. Bloody great! This is such an emotional roller coaster!!!! I can't cope with this after such a traumatic miscarriage! Just want answers Sad

You poor thing. That does sound like something not great is going on.

Sarahlouisa1983 · 01/10/2014 08:56

I spoke to the EPAU again this morning. They have booked me in for another blood test on Friday and the lady i spoke to was lovely. She did say my levels were very low, but she also said that they have to start somewhere. But she did say it was very strange so will have to see what happens on Friday .
I'm just so worried if it is retained tissue that it will cause problems! Don't want anything to start an infection or worse! They will scan me next week if my hcg has not changed much x

Sorry I've been quiet, just angry with the world. Basically after another blood test and a scan, it's not a new pregnancy and there's is also no remains left in me which is one good thing. To back to trying again now :,(
