Movements

I'm 19 weeks and not really felt movements yet. I say not really as I sometimes think I feel something in the night -but then I'm not sure if I just dreamed (or wind/gurgling tummy) it because I want it so much.

How obvious are movements when you feel them? Folk have said you don't always feel anything before 20 weeks with your first and I have a scan in a couple of weeks but it does make me start to worry again a little. Just want a reassurance that all is well.

I felt DD at 17 weeks and was expecting to feel DC2 sooner. It was about 2-3 slightly anxious weeks later and my scan showed that I have an anterior placenta. So the baby has been kicking that instead. I'd say that once you have felt a significant movement, you have no doubt about what you are feeling.

Hi jenny,

I didn't feel any movement until around twenty weeks and all was well.

Couple of things,

Do you have an anterior or posterior placenta? If you're not sure have a look at you notes. If it is anterior this can mask the feeling of kicks quite significantly until later in the pregnancy as in my case.

Have you tried lying on your front for a period of time? This can make the feeling more obvious.

If you are really concerned ask for your doc or midwife to check the heartbeat on a Doppler for you. There's are super sensitive so should pick up the heartbeat quite well.

Cross post pico2!

Thanks!
I don't think we know about the placenta yet -would probably find out at the 20 week scan.
I don't normally lie on my front due to my shape but will give that a go tonight.
I think I'll try to not worry too much until the scan (20+6).

I asked this out of curiosity i felt movement from 18 weeks but a lot of the people that commented were much later on. Try not to worry i don't think its odd that you havent. Also when i did feel it i had no doubts what it was.

Hi, with my first I felt him around 18 weeks but didn't feel anything till around 22 weeks this time my placenta is low anterior and they said its nothing to worry about untill after 24 weeks xx

ispentitwithyou · 28/09/2014 20:41

Even if you just lie on your front for half an hour you may be surprised what you can feel!

As others have said though, not to worry at this stage if you can't feel anything just yet

TinyMonkey · 28/09/2014 20:47

My placenta is high and at the back, but I still didn't feel noticeable movement until about 22/23 weeks.
I don't think you have anything to worry about, but ask the mw to have a listen next time you see her.

Have you had the doppler at your latest midwife appointment?
