...was your second one also a whopper?!

DC2 is due in December and whilst DS1 was hardly huge at 8lb14 / 4.05kg he was certainly too big for me at that stage, he had positional talipes in his feet and torticollis (twisted neck muscles) due to being so squashed in the womb (normal fluid amount). The fact he arrived 12 days late definitely didn't help...

He's now 2 and has no lasting problems, but we had physio for the first 6mths on foot & neck. We also opted for helmet treatment for him between 6-9 months to correct the pretty severe plagiocephaly (flat head) that resulted from his torticollis (twisted neck means he always favoured turning and tilting his head in one position)

I know it doesn't necessarily follow that I will have the same problems this time round, but can't help wondering! I would be v interested to hear how your second babies compared to your first, in terms of size / lateness / squashedness...

My dd1 was 9lb12 at 39+3, also had positional talipes (now fine, age 14). She was also a back labour and ventouse delivery.

Ds, 2 years on, was 9lb3 at 38+4, simple delivery, no problems, was a chunky baby but s now a hugely tall skinny 12yo.

Dd2 was induced at 36+6 as she was making me very unwell. Was 7lb15.

I'm glad my 2 younger ones didn't go to 40 weeks, given dd1's size!!

DS1 was a whopper, 9lb 2oz and midwives commented on how mahoosive the placenta and cord were too! He was also late and induced.

DS2, thankfully, was only 8lb 5oz and he went a week overdue too. Current one is actually measuring small for dates at the moment.

Recovery time was far quicker second time around and I only had a couple of stitches!

FloJo151 · 28/09/2014 17:14

ds1 was 9lb 7.5oz 40 +7 and emcs as he got stuck (prob too big for me)
ds2 was 8lb 3oz 39+3 vbac
dd1 was 8lb 39 +6 vbac

so in my case they were all smaller although had dc 2 + 3 been overdue aswell they might have been bigger than dc1.

PoppyAmex · 28/09/2014 17:16

DD was 10lbs 8
DS was 10lbs 6

PoppyAmex · 28/09/2014 17:17

Sorry forgot to add, both born 2 weeks early

DS was 9 lb 2 oz at 41w. I had only put on 11lb, weighed just over 9 st when I was weighed for theatre, and had been in my normal jeans when I stopped work at 37 weeks, so was genuinely not expecting a monster.
This time, I feel like a zeppelin at 27 weeks, but have been told baby us small, on 25th centile at every scan so far...

LynetteScavo · 28/09/2014 18:49

DC1 8lb 15oz

DC2 8lb 6oz

DC3 7lb 1oz.

All two weeks over due.

appreciate the replies, ok so i am not necessarily in for a ginormous one this time round....

weegiemum & poppy you must have indeed been delighted that you didn't go to 42 weeks, those were some whoppers :)

it's so hard to second guess as this pregnancy has been exactly the same as my last in terms of morning sickness/ exercise / food consumption but I actually think my bump is smaller. The other way round to you, cuppa! We may both have a more interesting xmas day this yr...

i spoke to my midwife about it and she has suggested possibly undiagnosed pregnancy diabetes could have contributed to DS1 being too big/being squashed, i am off for a test on Weds (29wks) to see if that's an issue this time.

i'm hoping that whatever the size, the birth itself will go more smoothly, though that is a-WHOLE-nother thread....

DC1: 9lbs 8oz @ 39+4 weeks
DC2: 3lbs 8oz @ 31 weeks (surviving triplet)
DC3: 10lbs 8oz @ 38 weeks

I have type 1 diabetes which was definitely a factor in DCs 1 & 3, DC 2 had lots of other stuff going on so I don't really know - DC 1&2 both hover around the 50th centile now, DC3 around the 75th (so far) for weight.
