Pain for 4 weeks

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the board but found it after trying to find information about pain in early pregnancy. I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been having period pain type pains for the past 4 weeks i.e. I think from conception. It started with my normal mid-cycle type pain and hasn't stopped. I had a last week and no reason for the pain could be found but the sac size was right for dates though no pole or egg sac could be seen yet. At the moment I'm waiting for a follow up scan appointment to see if things are progressing.

Hi peacemaker. When i found out i was pg, i thought i was going to come on. I had what i thought were period pains and actually thought i was going to loose the baby, i was out of my mind with worry until i asked everyone i knew who had been pg and every single one of them said it was one of the first signs. Basically its because the egg etc. is settling down and 'grabbing a hold' for want of a better expression and its all in the same place as periods and thats why it feels like it. It didnt stop me worrying though and i had it until about 3 months pregnant which is apparently normal cos that is when everything sort of settles down. I am now 34 weeks pg and getting 'period pains' again but now im worried its labour! You cant win. Good luck and please let us know how everything is - sorry im not great at explaining stuff! x

Thanks LeBe. Why do the doctors not tell you these things? I've seen the doctor about 3 times before I knew I was pregnant about the pains, then I found out last Monday and saw the doctor to tell her and she still didn't say "aha, thats the reason you've been getting the pain". She just referred me to the EPU for a scan. Good luck with your birth.

Try not to worry peacemakerukuk. I have the same kind of pains, especially in an evening when I'm trying to relax and I am 6+6 today. Doc says it is totally normal and his wife took a hot water bottle to bed for two months straight when she had it. Also seen on here lots of times that it is very common and just as LeBe says, a sign that the baby is burrowing in!

Oh I had this, like a dragging sensation round my pubic bone, just like I get when starting AF (period). Try not to worry peacemaker (easier said than done I know!!)

(and welcome to Mumsnet btw )

LeBe · 27/09/2006 16:41

I have seen since ive been on mumsnet alot of people say 'why hasnt my doc told me that' about all different ailments and i think thats why it is so helpful on here, plus all my docs hae been men so obviously dont know what period pains are like! Thankyou for wishing me luck (i think i will need it) but as showofhands says please try not too worry because it wont do you and the baby anygood im sure it will be all fine! x

Thanks ShowOfHands and Miaou - have had a call from the EPU this afternoon, I have an appointment for another scan tomorrow at noon so fingers crossed it will show all is well. I had a scan last Thursday and all it showed was the sac, hopefully tomorrow we'll see something in it.

hallo! I had similar pains from the day my period was due to about a week and a half later. At first they were sort of crampy, pre-menstrual sort of pains, with some lower back ache, and then when I was a week late they progressed to a mild, dullish ache, lasting for a couple of hours or more at a time. Then they went away for a bit, returning last week (I'm 12 + 4) for an hour or so here and there, usually when I go to bed. Everything is fine with me and I'm sure you'll find it's the same for you, at your scan tomorrow.

LeBe · 28/09/2006 10:22

Peacemaker - Good luck for this afternoon, please let us know how it goes, im sure it will be fine x
