Early scan shows possible ectopic

Just wondered if anyone else has had experience of this.

I went for early scan at 7 weeks yesterday. Had had some slight spotting then red blood in morning.

Somographer can see gestational sac but no baby. There's a mass in right Fallopian tube.

She told me it was possibly ectopic pregnancy at which point I realised I'm not going to have a baby this time

Sent to hospital, they took bloods and put me on monitoring of vitals plus drip for suspected ectopic.

Six hours on consultant comes to see us. Says blood results show high hcg levels consistent with pregnancy and scan inconclusive as not sure what mass is.

Potential options - it's ectopic pregnancy, or baby is in different place, or I'm earlier than thought and baby is in right place and can't be seen yet. In which case mass could be corpus luteum.

Got to go back in 48 hours for bloods and rescan to see if hcg has increased and if they can identify mass.

I'm in limbo - in my head I know it's likely I'm not going to have baby but there's a glimmer of hope...

I had something similar, high hcg level and a mass near my ovary at about 6-7weeks. It was all very upsetting but I'm now 39 weeks in the same pregnancy. They had me return 2days later and it's surprising what can happen in those 2days so don't be disheartened yet, good luck.

I've had a pain in my left leg for roughly a week now and I'm around 8 weeks pregnant. I got concerned so called the doctor who rang back , I told her what is happening and she asked me a few questions and said it sounds like a possible ectopic pregnancy to which I burst into tears as it's not what any first time mum to be wants to hear and got me to call 111 which I did, the lady on 111 said she didn't think I needed urgent seeing last night but I would need to be checked by a doctor in the next 3 days. I have not been sent for an early scan and even though not truly knowing how far gone I am, my mind is all over the place! How do you get early scans? I just want my mind to be at rest but my doctors are not making it easy for me.

shorty not heard about pains in leg - I was told to go to A&E if I get pain in side or shoulder tip. But if you're concerned go back to gp or early pg unit. I had to go private for early scan - it's not NHS unless there's suspected problem. Hope it's all ok xx

Suzy could they see baby on your scan in sac?

If you get pain - not just shoulder, mine was crippling, curl up in ball and cry, but not in my shoulder, please go to A&E. I was about an hour from rupturing my tube.
DS1 was a "we can see a sac but no baby" He's 5. Without the worry of the shaddow on the tube.

HOWEVER, to have a sac in your uterus, and a mass in your tube which is an ectopic pregnancy, you must have conceived twins.

Shorty: early scans, ime, are usually for bleeding. 7-8 weeks is late for an ectopic to make its self known. Hopefully it is nothing sinister.

Thanks addicted they've said it could be remains of corpus luteum, but you could be right. I just don't understand how there could be gestational sac but nothing in it I'm really hoping it's just too early.

shorty I meant to say my scan was because if spotting - generally you'd just wait until 12 weeks if nothing seems wrong.

la I had a scan at 5 weeks plus a few days, they could only see the sac, nothing else, but the sonographer did say she could see a luteal cyst too at that time, so told me which ovary had produced the egg. If your cycles are a bit funny it could just be a mix up with timings (hoping so hard for you its this) but it would match my 5 week scan? I hope more can be seen/good bloods tomorrow x

It feels like a lifetime ago but I have a feeling they could only see a mass. I had a cyst last year and it was queried whether it was a cyst or a fetus which was why I had to return 2days later then 2 weeks later. I really hope it goes ok.

I had bleeding at 5 weeks, went for scan at 6 weeks after a week of light bleeding and still getting a bFp. I was told it was a pregnancy of unknown location but there was a mass in my womb that looked like it could have been a sac that was coming away. I had my HCG levels monitored for a bit, they were rising but not doubling like they should in a healthy pregnancy so they thought very likely an ectopic. Had mtx shot to be on the safe side but HCG kept rising and when it got to 1000 they were able to see a mass near my ovary on the third scan. Had a second shot and luckily that resolved it without surgery.

It's a horrible waiting game, but when I was researching it at the time there were many similar stories with a positive outcome. The shoulder tip pain should only be present when your tube has ruptured apparently so if you're in a lot of pain get it checked out before it gets to that point

I went to see a lovely GP yesterday and he doesn't seem to think it's an ectopic pregnancy like the other doctor told me , so after worrying and crying lots I'm feeling a little more reassured, he has managed to get me a scan today, so I'm excited and nervous for that. X

He also said the pain in my leg is probably strain on my hip ... So fingers crossed everything with baby is okay.

I'm just about to go in for rescan and bloods but I think my baby is gone. I don't feel pregnant anymore and my symptoms are gone.

I'm hoping they can give me the news sooner rather than later so I can just come home with my husband.

I have more positive news. Sac looks right shape but v v small. No evidence of baby but could be too early. Mass is corpus luteum but ectopic not completely ruled out. Going back in two weeks for rescan. Better news than expected but another two weeks to wait. Hopefully it's just early

Two week wait means they really aren't concerned about ectopic, so thats fab news.
Keep your chin up, and try to focus on other things over the next two weeks tho its practically impossible to do so and fingers crossed in 2 weeks you get to see a little bean with a fluttering heartbeat!

Thanks so much addicted, it doesn't make sense with my dates for me to be only 5 weeks but I know it can be hard to measure accurately early on.

I'm just going to keep hoping there's a baby in the sac at next scan.

I still currently in hospital, great news I'm not having an ectopic BUT there is no fluid around the baby and is measuring 16 weeks which I only thought I was 8 weeks and midwife said I'm defiantly no more than 12 weeks! Currently waiting to see a doctor

It's not good news ?? need another scan on Monday, but they are saying I could miscarriage ?? so heart breaking but my fingers are crossed! It's so hard to get this news when you finally fall pregnant after 3 and half years of trying.
