Cyclogest

I've been prescribed cyclogest pessaries to take when I get my next BFP following recurrent miscarriages. On reading up on it there seems to be plenty of leakage. Has anyone tried using an instead soft cup with them. They're usually used for menstration and sit below the cervix in the vagina to catch the menses. Im thinking they will catch the progesterone and keep it in situ so that it can be absorbed. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or should it be able to exit the body freely? Thanks for reading Smile

If it is like crinone (which I think it is!), the progesterone gets absorbed locally within 15 mins. And with the amount you put in, you definitely want it to come out, otherwise it all gets a bit full up there!!!

They are a bit messy, but nothing a panty liner won't cope with. The drug is released and absorbed as the pessaries dissolves. How high does the cup sit? The pessaries are similar size to a non applicator tampon so I'd be concerned the cup would force them up against the cervix and cause irritation. You can insert them rectally which apparently solves the leakage problem - never tried it.

I took cyclogest for 12 weeks and it's mainly the wax coating that leaks. I found if I popped the pessary in then lay with legs in the air for 15 mins that was enough to cut down on the leakage. Good luck!

I've had to take cyclogest with my ivf cycles, I used to put them in in bed in the morning and lie there for 10-20 minutes to allow for absorption, then again when I went to bed at night. There was some mess in the day, I wore a panty liner. The pessaries will be designed to make sure there's enough dose delivered even with the leakage.

For my final cycle I had Gestone rather than cyclogest. This was injected into my bum by DH with a needle that must have been designed for horses, that was fun! Maybe ask for this if you are concerned about the leakage with cyclogest.

Good luck, really hope you get your BFP soon.

Oh yes bakingtins reminded me on embryo transfer day you had to insert rectally - there was nearly no leakage the times I did Blush

The stuff that leaks is wax not the progesterone and you don't really want that hanging around I wouldn't think... I did it rectally in the mornings to avoid leakage during the day, and at night vaginally and then immediately lay down. Ah wasn't sorry to reach 12 weeks and finish then''!

Thank you for the advice ladies, definitely want the wax to escape Murphy29 and Moggle. Not sure quite how the soft cup sits baking tins but it's comfy (not much help). Its its below the cervix.

I took cyclogest for 12 weeks for each of my IVF pregnancies. the leakage is pretty foul, but like others say, its the wax not the drug, so let it out. I also did what someone else said - rectally in the morning, vaginally at night time just before I got into bed. There was a bit of leakage in the morning but nothing like if you put it vaginally in the morning.

Hello,

I am a Cyclogest survivor too. I was told that the progesterone is absorbed within 20 mins, so as others have said, you can insert and then lie down for a while. Obviously, this is easier at bed time, but you can also use them rectally too, so if you are in a rush in a morning, you can use the 'back door'. I found that it sometimes caused a bit of diarrhoea a couple of hours later though, so don't be alarmed if this happens.

P.S. Just saw that someone else suggested this but will post anyway...
