I've found that flatties have absolutely killed my feet, so at 19 weeks, I'm still in 2 inch heels for work- I'm guessing that as long as they're not vertiginous stilettos or anything, you should be dandy.

...actually, what is the reason they say not to wear heels? I can remember seeing something on an episode of Call the Midwife, but haven't been told to swap to flat shoes personally

BanglesSpangles · 24/09/2014 12:48

oh- ah-ha, first googled link i looked at said heels can contribute to lower back pain, and swollen feet. Oh well, I guess carry on until your back starts hurting?!

natharley11 · 24/09/2014 12:48

no I ain't been told not too im guessing must effect your balance in the latter stages

im in an office so sat down most day x

By 15 weeks on pregnant number 1, I couldn't wear heels at all and wore flats the whole time.

For pregnancy number 2, I wore my high heel (2 inches or so) knee high boots until I was about 7 months, and only stopped wearing them because the weather got too hot.

If you are comfortable in them (and not as clumsy as I was in my first pregnancy) I'd say keep going!

BanglesSpangles · 24/09/2014 12:52

hmmm...i guess so- that said, i know quite a lot of non-pregnant people who have bugger all balance in heels, so i suppose as long as you're used to it, it shouldn't be a problem! That's the advice I'm going to give myself, anyway

PuppyMummy · 24/09/2014 17:57

I lasted til 20 weeks in my work heels but my back really hurt! it was fixed when I switched to flats!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 24/09/2014 18:32

As long as your comfortable and have good balance in them I can't see how there would be a problem.

Me personally, I would never wear heels in pregnancy because my balance isnt great at the best of times and pregnancy seems to destroy what little balance I have. I also have back problems that are escalated by pregnancy. I'd be dangerous in them.

MultipleMama · 24/09/2014 18:35

I can't wear complete flat shoes, they hurt my feet as there's hardly any support there and give me back pain Hmm.

I either where my wedges, my new favourite pair of new rock boots or my slip on Dravens/Vans.. . I do occasionally where my high heels mainly my irregular choice ones when I'm pushing the Quad stroller and need the height! Grin

I think it just depends on your balance and when your feet start hurting :)

mausmaus · 24/09/2014 18:36

you mean as a girls name?
hmmmmm

BumpNGrind · 24/09/2014 20:55

Still in mine at 38 weeks, they feel comfy and I am happy wearing them.

Topsyloulou · 24/09/2014 21:40

I wore 3 inch heels to work until I finished at 37 weeks. I'd drive & walk into the office in flats & change to heels at my desk & then flats again if I went out at lunch. I wore wedge heels last weekend at 40+3 with no problems. Think it all depends on how good you are with heels to start with & how you are feeling. I've been lucky & had no back ache or swelling.

WingsClipped · 25/09/2014 08:47

I used to live in heels. 4inch, 5inch, 6inch all totally fine. Could wear them the whole day, running around with no problems. Then I got pregnant with DD. Literally the week after I found out, DH and I went out and my 3inch pair gave me such severe back pain I had to buy a new pair of flats to change into there and then Sad
I'm afraid to say since then- my DD is 3- I've not really been able to wear heels like how I did before. I wear flats 99% of the time and the heels only come out during weddings and other special occasions and now with DC2 on the way, I will be in flats 100% of the time

natharley11 · 25/09/2014 09:52

thanks all. think I'll brave it bit longer I lived in heel having done ballroom dancing I was practically born in them.

got to say got one or two disapproving looks of the older people in the office altho think they disapprove of me in general x

I think it's fine as long as you feel confident that your balance is still up to scratch and you are comfortable in them (no foot/back pain etc).

TheScenicRoute · 27/09/2014 08:15

I need comfort at the moment, I mean I REALLY need comfort! I don't care what I look like, I'm in permanent flats. X

Kellyg789 · 27/09/2014 09:22

Still on mine at 19 weeks , will stop when it's uncomfortable

CordeliaScott · 27/09/2014 17:44

I was still wearing heels when I turned up at the hospital in labour. Although admittedly I think that meant the midwives didn't believe I was in labour...

If you are comfortable in them and your balance is fine there's no reason to stop wearing them, although don't expect people not to comment.
