I'm 28 weeks tomorrow with DS3. I have gestational diabetes(again!) and baby was measuring on the big side at my last scan(almost 4 weeks ago). His head and femur were on 65th centile and his tummy was on the-wait for it-93rd centile!! Shiiiiiiit! They estimated his weight at 1lb15oz. Got another growth scan on Monday morning and I'm absolutely bricking it. Strangers keep stopping me saying 'Ooo not long to go now, hey?' Then when I tell them there's potentially still another 12 weeks left, the look of shock/pity on their faces is terrifying!
Is anyone else this huge at this stage?! Confused

I'm 28 weeks in Thursday. Had a private scan on Saturday where they estimated baby's weight at 2lb8. Bloody spiffing.

Dd was 9lb full term so I think I just grow them big Grin

Got my mw home visit on Sunday where I will have my fundal height measured for the first time and a referral for a growth scan probably

meringue33 · 23/09/2014 19:49

Big is better. Baby will probably be healthy, feed well and sleep through sooner.

Just keep taking the G&A!

HulaHoopsInTheBath · 23/09/2014 19:54

Was about to say exactly what meringue said. DD was over 10lb and just a fabulous baby, ate, slept, and people weren't scared to hold her so I got a break when I needed it.

I would say I am on par with you love size wise, I am almost 26 weeks. Next m/w app 28 weeks so we shall see about fundal height measurement, but like Stetsons, pretty sure I grow them big!

sidorek · 23/09/2014 19:58

me:) I am even bigger :)))

LizzieMint · 23/09/2014 20:03

Yes I was, also with no.3. I went into a shop just after my 28 week appt and the lady there asked me how long I had to go, when I said 12 weeks, she called all the other ladies over from the back of the shop to marvel at how enormous I was and how she'd not even been that big at full-term with twins. Angry
As it turned out, dc3 was 18 days late and 9lb 6.

StetsonsAreCool · 23/09/2014 20:18

Meringue makes a good point actually. Dd first slept through at 5 weeks, and apart from a few blips, generally always slept for long periods overnight. I'd forgotten about that Grin

Pregnantagain7 · 23/09/2014 20:42

My last one was 10lb 8 and this one is looking like it's going the same way! People have being saying not long now since if was about 26 weeks, at 34 weeks by bump was measuring 43cms! Things have slowed down a bit now(37 weeks) but I'm still bloody huge!! I feel your pain :)

nobeer · 23/09/2014 21:03

Good luck! I'm 28 weeks too getting my results for gestational diabetes tomorrow. I've had a few comments about how big my bump is so a bit nervous.

Loveallmyboys · 23/09/2014 22:08

Argh! I'm glad I'm not alive. But Christ I'm scared :( had a cs with DS1(he was 11 weeks prem and weighed 2lb11oz), DS2 was 4 weeks early, VBAC and weighed 6lb6oz(great feeder and great sleeper) so god knows how my tiny frame is going to deal with this monster?! I'm 5'2" and size 8 ffs. I do NOT have child-bearing hips! This baby will inevitably 'tear me a new one' for want of a better expression!!!

I am alive... I meant alone!

It sounds , in my extremely limited knowledge, like your body is perfectly capable of making big babies. I was always told that your body doesn't make babies bigger than it can cope with delivering. You might surprise yourself!

2lb11 at 29 weeks - sounds about 75th centile based on what the sonographer estimated for me this weekend (2lb8 at 27+2).

I think babies can put on up to a pound a week in the last few weeks, so your dc2 could have been aiming towards 10lb?

But if you've got a small frame, then perhaps you will be slightly early again so that your body can deliver safely?

The important thing is not to panic. You're going to be well cared for whatever size the baby ends up being. Trust your body to do its job. Good luck!

Sillysausage2 · 23/09/2014 23:47

I don't think they can be exactly right with weight estimates. At 34 weeks I was told LO was 5lb and would put on half a pound per week.
I went 2 weeks over and she was 7lb exactly

Loveallmyboys · 24/09/2014 09:58

Thanks Stetson (and everyone else) the whole birth thing is a scary process as it is, but u can't help worrying about things like shoulder dystoxia(??) and another cs. The thought of cutting through an old(and pretty perfect) scar, knocks me sick! I'm pretty squeamish about scars! Ha.
Oh well, what will be will be, as they say... Will let you know what they say on Monday... Ugh

I grow em big too. One 9lbs4 and one 9lbs8 (40+3 and 39+2 weeks respectively).

No need for newborn clothes straight into 1/3 months and 3+months after a few weeks.

WingsClipped · 24/09/2014 13:45

I grow big babies/bumps as well. DD was due in October and throughout that summer I had SOOO many people telling me I looked ready to pop. I just had to smile and nod coz it depressed me to say I still had 3 months more to go Hmm. DD was 9lb when born and 99 centile for height and weight.

This time round since 8 weeks I've look around 5/6 months already. I've had strangers talking to me about my pregnancy and offering me seats on the tube (without my badge). Am trying to keep it a secret until I'm past 1st tri but the only way it has been working has been totally avoiding friends and family and wearing very very loose clothing and a million floaty layers when I do see them. I really don't want to think about how big this baby is going to be.

Im 36 weeks and expecting a 10lb bubba. DS was 7lb7 so rather different.

go and read ina may's guide to child birth by ina may gaskin. It will give you total confidence in your body and its ability to birth whatever size it produces. Im entering this labour with fearless excitement because of that book!

kitkat321 · 26/09/2014 11:05

I'm 30 weeks and a very similar size to you OP.

Everyone keeps telling me how big I am and to me baby feels big based on her movements and what I can feel of her.

Got MW next week and am going to ask about it -they didn't measure me at my last appointment but the one before apparently I was bang on so I'm hoping it's all ok - terrified enough of giving birth without being told in advance I'm having a big un!!

MelanieWiggles · 26/09/2014 11:50

25 weeks here and had a scan on Wednesday - baby measuring just over 2lbs. Consultant said it is a 'perfect size' for my gestation - was totally unconcerned. Last DS was 9 lbs 7 at 9 days early so I think I grow em big too. He was a VBAC - straightforward delivery. Didn't sleep through the night until he was 2 though !

StrawbsAndCream · 26/09/2014 15:33

I'm 29.5 weeks and had a scan 2 days ago, they estimated baby to be 1856g.. I thought oh that's ok probably about right..
Until I converted it to pounds..4lb!!!
I am 5ft2, a petite size 8 and literally just bump. My husband however is a a 6ft 4 broad shouldered rugby player! My consultant plotted it on the graph and it's quite a bit above all centile lines.. They didn't seem concerned just joked I should have chosen a smaller husband.
Slightly bricking it now and don't think I'll be getting to my due date!
So if that's any conciliation Grin

Loveallmyboys · 27/09/2014 07:13

Is it too late to change our minds?! Haha. Thanks for the book advice. I'll check that out Smile
