I'm amazed myself that i am starting a thread on this so soon!

Have been feeling like i have got a cold for the last few days - can hardly talk this morning as my throat is so sore - spent half of the night awake through coughing and pulling my tummy muscle's!
Whenever, i have had colds/flu previously i cannot shift them for weeks and weeks and the only thing that eventually gets rid of it is a course of antibiotics.
I know i am a pansy but it is bad enough being at work and not feeling too great through being pregnant let alone being at work feeling knackered through being pregnant and awful from a cold...................so, if i go to the doctors are they likely to let me have antibiotics or at least give me something to shift this wretched thing???
It will be a sit and wait appt. so really don't want to waste my time going if there is no way they will prescribe me something!

If i go to the doctors and ask for Antibiotics are they likely to give them to me?

i had a bad throat infection when pregnant with dd and they still gave me a course of antibiotics - I just made sure the Gp knew I was pregnant and checked again with the pharmacist to make sure there were no problems.

I am not sure what your GP would do but it would be worth a try I guess. Sorry probably not much help...

Think some antibiotics are OK in pregnancy (think I had some last time for a UTI). Probably best to go to doctor because IME chemist won't give you much.

Thanks. Have just rang the doctors surgery - receptionist said if it is just a standard cold they wont give me anything but if it is a viral infection they may be able to prescribe something.
However, only 1 doctor in today so is a case of sitting a waiting.

Don't think i am going to bother going - if i knew i could see my usualy GP i would because i knwo he would prescribe me something or at least i would trust what he says but don't really fancy sitting around waiting for 2 hours to be told by a doctor i don't know that i can't have anything.

Thanks for your replies anyway Bozza & Eidsvold

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks guys - went to the Doc's on Thursday evening to see what i can and can't take. He was really good, checked me over and basically said i had a throat infection and high fever but couldn't give me anything for it - best to sit at home and rest.

Huge streaming cold arrived on Friday morning but seems to be going now - there is probably just something doing the rounds!

Thanks for your advice anyway

Hiya SC - This is a bit 'after-the-fact' but I've just finished my 3rd course of Antibiotics for UTI's. I have also been prescribed Cocodamol for the terrible headaches I keep getting and for my SPD (picture of health!!).

I remember in my last pregnancy I developed a rather nasty chest infection at 18wks. I had a high fever and was told to take paracetamol to lower it as the fever is more dangerous than the pills. Paracetamol and Co-codamol are absolutely fine to take.

Glad you're all better though.
