Stretch & Sweep

I've got my 40 week appointment tomorrow and will be 40+6. I'm rather guessing that my mw will offer to give me a stretch and sweep however my bump hasn't dropped yet and I'm not sure if it's worth trying if it's just going to be uncomfortable and not do anything. Has anyone else received a s&s when their bump was still up under their boobs and did it work?!

My sweep last time didn't work. But always worth a try I reckon.... Doesn't take long although, yes is uncomfortable.

My bump is still really high but the midwife did check at both my 40 and 41 week appointment to see if my cervix was favourable for a sweep but in both cases it was a no. The sweep depends on the cervix being favourable rather than how engaged you are but normally the two do go together. It's always worth getting her to do a quick examination, you never know.

I was 12days overdue, had a sweep, all good, went home to watch Bakeoff and went into labour early the next morning. Very relieved.

I didn't notice my bump dropping and when I had my S&S I was 1.5cm dilated and had a short cervix. Also it's barely uncomfortable, just like a smear test. I started having contractions hours later and losing bits of plug, proper labour started 2 days later. If anything I really had it just to find out what was going on up there, it really helped me feel positive about things happening!

I had one at 40+8, the midwife said she didn't think it would do anything after she had checked me (think my cervix was barely open 1cmand quite firm?) Was in labour 12 hours later. Grin

My mw checked position first and wouldn't do one at 40 weeks as not engaged. Went back at 41 weeks- head engaged, had a "good stretch" and had first contraction 12 hours later. Really didn't find it too uncomfortable and I'm fairly wussy..

At 38 weeks I was only 4/5 engaged so fingers crossed things might have progressed in the last couple of weeks.
