Would a midwife check if dilated?

I'm only 35+1 this is my second pregnancy. Baby has been head down for months and is now engaged and don't I bloody know it!

I really feel as though he could drop out every time he moves. The shooting pain in my pelvis has me doubled over at times and when he pushes down my top inner thighs cramp up. The pressure of his head is making life very uncomfortable. He is measuring two weeks ahead and I get stomach tightenings and period like back pain daily.

Is there any possibility I could be dialated this early? Would my
Community midwife even check
For this? I just want to know so I can either take it easy or carry on - I want him to stay until at least 37 weeks as I'm booked in at a midwife led unit! I haven't even packed my bags!

Hi lightup... not sure... they generally dont like doing internals before 37 weeks in case they kick something off. Having said that if they thought you might actually be in labour they probably would. I know if I gave your symptoms to my midwives theyde rather not do an internal, babies can drop very low and feel very uncomfortable well before labour or the start of labour. Likewise you may be dilated to 2 or 3cm weeks before you go into labour, so even an internal check finding dilation wouldnt necessarily mean they would do anything.

Bit long winded - sorry! I'd tell your midwife, ask re an internal maybe, but dont hold your breath...

Its very unlikely to start things, but its not unheard of, so they just prefer not to. I asked my midwife if she could check my cervix when I was about 32 weeks as i'd been prescribed a tablet called buscopan as pain relief for a non oregnancy related issue, but buscopan is also used as a cervical ripener. I was feeling a lot of pressure down below and just wondered if she could check and reassure me. She didnt really want to be invasive at that point, and explained that internals could start something. Slight chance... so kinda going by my own experience just...
