Labour after cervical stitch removal

I have an appointment on Wednesday at 37 weeks to have my cervical stitch out.

I wasn't dilated when it went in and cervix was closed as of last week.

The midwife said that the stitch removal could kick things off and to bring my hospital bag just in case. I'll also be monitored for contractions for a few hours after removal. All this is making me a bit panicked about getting everything washed, cleaned and ready eye.

Can anyone else who has had a stitch in shed any light on how long it took them to go into labour?

Thanks ladies

Good luck on Wednesday Mamami. Im also getting a stitch removed on Wednesday - but it will be week 39 and removed following planned c-section due to previous complications.

I lookd into this a few months ago when i thought i was going to get the stitch out in wk 36 or 37. Most research suggests that labour will occur on average 2 weeks after stitch removal, and that only a minority of ladies go into labour within 3 days of stitch removal. One study showed that only 11% if ladies went into labour 2 days after stitch removal, and another reported 18% going into labour within 3 days. So its unlikely to happen instantaneously. No harm bringing in your hospital bag, but i would probably not make plans on staying (for another 7 days or so!).

Best of luck!

No experience sorry, but there's The Short Cervix Club in Antenatal Clubs and there are probably many women on there whowill be able to offer advice. Smile

I had a stitch with DS, it came out at 37 weeks and like you I was warned it may kick things off....nothing... We got to 39+4 when my waters broke and he was born at 39+5... I'm now 9 weeks with my second and stupidly anxious about having a stitch again (even though it was fine last time!)
