Hi, I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have a low lying placenta. Please can you tell me the implications of this? Anyone have any stories. Very down today x

I had the same at my 20 week scan . Completely covering the o/s . I had to just take it easy really . no heavy lifting or long walks . re scanned at 32 weeks and it had moved . It only needs to move 2 cm away from the os to enable a natural delivery . baby is now 7 months !

Same here it was touching os at twenty weeks but had another scan at 36 weeks to check progress and it had moved to 3cm away. Apparently over 90% move safely out of the way by 34/36 weeks.

I had a low lying placenta which had also moved by the 32 week scan.

Have posted this before, but a very helpful Obs. reg. told me to imagine a balloon and drawing a mark with a felt tip pen on it's neck and then to imagine blowing the balloon up.
The mark will almost always end up on the inflated part of the balloon rather than the opening/bit you tie in a knot.

Your uterus is like the balloon, and as it grows bigger, the placenta, like the mark, usually moves away from the neck (cervix).

I know one woman whose placenta didn't migrate up but she had a peaceful elective cs with a consultant she'd met and a playlist. She said it was amazing! Smile

My friend had one but it moved up so she could have a vb.

Hi Noappointment, I've got one too apparently. Got another scan at 32 weeks to see if it's moved. Had a tiny bleed the other day so called triage and they said to come in to monitor me, but all fine now so same as you, just waiting to see what happens. I'm sure it'll be fine though - no one at the hospital seemed very worried. Just lots of advice to REALLY take it easy (YAY no cleaning for me then) and not walk too much.

Hi was also told I have low lying placenta at 20 week scan, I had a bright red bleed which resulted in a hospital stay at 33 weeks which was horrible they scanned me and placenta still low, I'm 35 weeks now and having a scan on Wednesday next week to see if its moved. Apart from that no other problems xx

I had it. Stage 4 placenta Praevia. Had a v peaceful cs at 39 weeks. Baby was 8lb 1! Second baby was a vbac. No placenta issues.

Good luck! If it turns out that it doesn't move, really don't worry. It was v smooth. And I bf for 2 years so don't take it all doom like (not saying you will! Just that some women feel that a cs birth isn't the 'same'!!).

I was also told at the twenty week scan that I have placenta praevia - apparently of the 600 women at twenty weeks who have it, only one still has it by 32 weeks.
Quite looking forward to the extra scan and hopefully some better pics than we managed at the twenty week scan.
Lovely to hear such positive stories incase there it's no change., hope you enjoy your extra scan too.
