Heartburn help

I know this gets talked about a lot but it's got really severe. Can't lie down without mouth filling with acid and it's caused me to spend the past couple of nights being sick. I've had it all the way through (am 35 weeks) and have been trying to avoid any medication (other than the standard Gaviscon-swigging all day long).

Doctor told me about Ranitidine at my 31 week appointment and said it's safe but I declined it as I was trying to be a hero and not take any medications during pregnancy. I now realise this was a mistake.

Haven't been able to get an appointment with the GP today and can't face a weekend of no sleep and burning.

Despatched DH to buy Zantac as I've read this is the over the counter Ranitidine.

My question is, despite reading that it is safe, would you just take it this weekend? Is it really ok? Will go and see the GP on Monday as well but I need a short-term fix!

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/indigestion-heartburn-pregnant.aspx#close - says its fine to take.

I took it all through pregnancy. But just standard tesco ranitadine much cheaper than Zantac!

Thanks ladies. Hope it works!!

If your doctor has mentioned it, get him/her to prescribe it to you, then you don't have to pay for it in industrial quantities

I'm 27 weeks and have started to get acid throat every day, I can only begin to dread how I'll feel in another 8 weeks! Smile

I've been on omperzole since around 20 weeks it was awful before, 35 weeks now and still working very well x

I had to make a mad dash to the doctors last week as my Zantac had run out! Started taking tablets about 20 weeks, not even one a day, when needed. Now at nearly 33 weeks on at least one a day, definitely get it prescribed :-)

Omeprazole cures it totally. Get your doc to prescribe one a day.

I've had omeprazole with both pregnancies, it's great. If you need it, take it.
