How to tell if your waters have broke?

Hey ladies,
So last couple of weeks I've had different signs of early labour.
I believe I lost my plug (lost a big Clear mucous blob that the midwife said "sounded" like my plug had gone. Then been having strong Braxton hicks, however as soon as the seem to get regular they stop, I've had diarrhoea, low back ache, heavy feeling down below and the last couple of days it felt like something was in my vagina, almost like I had a tampon in. Then today I went for a wee but when I stoped I had another little gush, this happened 3 times on the toilet. I then went to watch tv and has another little gush before having another one again on the toilet. The gushes are clear and only a tiny bit at a time but I'm not sure if it's just wee as I feel like I still needed one (even though I've emptied my bladder plenty of times and haven't drunk that much today)
I don't want to call the midwife and look silly because it's just wee, plus my partner is away and I don't want to have to call my step dad to take me to the hospital over a false alarm when he's just finished a 13 hour shift. What do you guys think it is?

Hmm I've tried smelling it but it doesn't really smell of anything... Doesn't help the only pads I have are scented though lol. I may just see how it goes then call if It keeps happening. I'm sure it's nothing but only 33 weeks so all the other signs combined have me on edge a little!

Phone the midwife now! No harm in asking, but plenty of reasons not to ignore.

I phoned in my last pregnancy after a bath and had a little gush.... Turned out it was bath water! But no harm in checking.

Deffo ring m/w
When my waters went with DD1 they more ruptured than burst and I kept thinking it was wee as it was just a little gush every now and again. Does smell different, I'd say quite sweet. It did feel a little different too tbh, no control over it at all. There really is no harm in checking!

That sounds like when my beaters broke with dd. With ds, it was a massive gush.

Call your midwife, you'll likely be called up to day assessment or similar and have a midwife crank open your doodah and shine an enormous torch up there "to see if there is a pool of water at the bottom of your cervix" (or whatever it is they say!).

My DH thought this torch shining thing was the most brilliant technique he'd ever seen in all our antenatal appointments (and this was baby no3!). It was quick, painless, and conclusive that my waters hadnt broken. I was just leaking wee from an enormous baby bump Blush

They kept me in overnight anyway because baby was lying transverse. Went in for one thing... ended up staying in for something else Confused

Mine went with a pop and a huge gush, but they can just leak or trickle. However, if you even think they might have gone, you should ring triage or whatever at the maternity unit. Good luck!

EstellaSpitsEmOut · 18/09/2014 22:48

I was totally unsure when mine went. My knickers were slightly wet through a panty liner, but nothing much really.
I phoned the labour ward and they asked me to come in. They had gone apparently so always worth checking.

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2014 22:54

Beaters!!! Waters!

Get your bottom to triage and get them to check. Put a pad on so they can see it when you get there.

With 3 of mine I felt the pop whilst in labour, last time it was just as you described and was in labour within 3 hrs. Apparently I was contracting before I actually felt anything that would be described as a proper contraction.

At 33 wks don't chance it and wait and see, if it is your waters you need steroid injections to help baby just incase
