Mirena coil questions?

Hi everyone,

This is my first thread on here so please forgive me if it's in the wrong category. I had my coil removed yesterday, and have had no bleeding (sorry for TMI) and only had slight cramps. I had the mirena put in around 4 years ago and haven't had a period since. Nurse told me yesterday that because I had intercourse the day before removal I could still get pregnant? A little confused.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this coil and how long they waited for a 'normal' period after removal. Also how long it took them to conceive?

Any answers would be much appreciated Smile

Mine fell out without my knowledge ( no period while with it) and we worked out that I conceived two days after it came out Blush. I think it varies from person to person, and can take up to a year for 'normal' fertility to resume but not for all!

That's crazy! Me and my OH have said if I fall pregnant we're ready so let's see how it goes Smile just not looking forward to my first period in 4 and half years!

The coil prevents the egg implanting in your uterus, it does not prevent the egg from fertilising. So feasibly there is a fertilised egg making it's way towards your uterus right now...

But the mirena contains progesterone which prevents your uterus lining building up (hence no periods) so it's extremely unlikely that the egg will have anything to implant into.

So... It's possible. But extremely unlikely.

Your cycle should get back to normal quite quickly as the hormone dose is low.

I had my coil taken out on 28th July. And fell pregnant within days. I just had a scan today which dated me at 9 weeks, so going from the period I had before the coil came out! Good luckThanks

I had mine taken out, had very little bleeding immediately afterwards but a heavy period 4 days later. Got pregnant two weeks later. Blush

It definately doesn't delay getting pregnant!

I had my first coil removed and had no bleeding and mild cramping for a day. I fell pregnant within four weeks, unfortunately went on to MC (no relation to coil BTW!) had a coil refitted and took 9 months to conceive after the removal
Of that one. Also had very little
Pain and no bleeding.

Thanks for all your replies. My period has started but it's just on and off at the moment. Forgot how bad I suffered with tummy cramps, the pain even travels into my legs :-(

I'm sure it will all be worth it :-)
