Midwife appts

How often do you need to go?

So frustrated with mine right now- at booking appt my midwife told me to phone my GP the next day and make a midwife appt in my surgery- I asked when for and she said whenever you can get one.
Duly did that, got one 2 weeks later(off on annual leave anyway) turned up and it was the same midwife, gave me a lecture about time wasting as I was supposed to make it for a month after 12 wk scan. Honestly don't think she told me that, but anyway.

Now the time has come to make this appt- she only has appts 1 day a week in 2-4pm window. This is on my busiest day at work, honestly can't just swan out mid afternoon (obviously going to have to), it's too late for lunch, too early to just finish early...

So how often do you generally need to go to the midwife? I asked and all she said was "as often as you need" which was very helpful.

If everything is straightforward, you go for booking in, then have your scan at 12 weeks, then see MW again about 16 weeks, then 24 weeks, then every 4 weeks onwards. I also saw hospital MW at my twenty week scan for urine test, blood tests etc.

Not sure if you're high risk though, presumably they may want to see you more often Smile

The NHS midwife appointment schedule is here www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/antenatal-appointment-schedule.aspx - sounds like your midwife is being deliberately unhelpful! I've had the same issue with appointments with my community midwives - only do Tuesday early afternoon, which meant I had to trek from work and back (40 mins in each direction) unless I could arrange to work from home!

It's strange as all my local friends who've had a baby rave about her, I just find her rude.

I've just started a new job and they don't know I'm pg yet, planning on telling them in the next week or so. I should be able to work from home soon just waiting to get it set up so I should be able to so that for future appts. It's only about 10 miles away too, so not too bad.
Healthy so far, just need anti D and probably a glucose tolerance test (borderline bmi) so hopefully it will be ok apart from that.
