Am I having a miscarriage?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and today I had some blood when I went to the loo, not very heavy but definitely there.
I have spoken on the phone to my GP, he told me that some pregnancies do bleed and don't always miscarry and that's at the moment it is 50/50. He has advised I go home from work (which I have done) and have complete rest for the next 2 days.
I had to tell my manager who didn't even know I was pregnant. She was supportive and allowed me to leave straight away.
I am terrified. I think I'm losing my baby. is there anything I can do?? And how do I know if I miscarry?
I don't have a stomach ache but have been getting a slight twinge in in my lower left stomach/groin for about a week but I out it down to gas and feeling sick. I've been very sick over the past 2 days.
Thanks for allowing me to vent and if anyone can offer any reassurance or advice I would welcome it

Hi frecklebee sorry for the late reply. The internal scan is fine don't worry. Give yourself a few seconds -and tell the nurses that you are- just to really relax so you are not too tense. TMI but it is a probe-like instrument which they put plenty of Ky jelly type stuff on! It's not too big either, and throughout they should ask if your comfortable too. And if they're going to move it, even slightly, they will tell you before hand. My partner didn't come purely due to the fact that I went to the doctors on the Monday, and just by chance the EPU told then they had an appointment on the Thursday. So it was very short notice, although I completely didn't mind and I'm sure if I'd of asked him, he would of. Good luck x

Hi OP,

The vaginal scan is absolutely fine! I had heavy bleeding at 6 weeks & had spotting for a month afterwards. Had a private scan at 7+5 and could see the little beat flickering away! I'm now 18 wks with a kicking active baby.
I did have a mc in April but bleeding was accompanied with severe cramping. Very different experience.
You're right to get checked out none the less. Bleeding can be common but very scary. Just get lots of rest between now & scan. Take care

Hi don't know if anyone has had same experience I had a miscarriage in June I've had a period since and I thought I had another period on the 15th but wasn't due til the 18th it only lasted 3 days and was heavier than usual and little tiny clots and when it stopped I've still got cramping just now and just feel pressure around my stomach but I've tried testing and it's negative so I'm not sure what it could be now? X

Thanks everyone, I know it'll probably be a little uncomfortable but will be fine as I'll get to find out what's going on.
Over the weekend I've continued to have small amounts of brownish blood, not heavy but definitely there. I've really been trying to rest up as it does seem to appear if I've exerted myself in anyway.
What's really difficult at this stage is that I have no way of telling if baby is okay or not. Obviously can't tell by movement, don't have a bump, have no outwards evidence that I am pregnant. And all this then makes it difficult not to think I've lost the baby.
Also when I get my period I usually get IBS symptoms and I'm certainly getting the latter, therefore thinking it could be a light period I've just been having and that this is not a good sign.
As time goes on I'm getting more worried and feeling quite tearful this morning. All weekend have been trying to put a brave face on and stay positive but I have a horrible niggling feeling.
I'm having to stay off work, I'm so distracted with this that I'd be no good.
Wish my scan was a bit closer, it I'll be a long wait til Friday!

Lorraine I would talk to your GP ASAP there may still be something left behind or you may have an infection that would be best seen to straight away.

cheshirem2b · 22/09/2014 12:31

Freckle I had the brown bleeding from the Thursday, saw mw on the Friday and got booked for scan on the Monday. It eased over the weekend but by the time they has finished pressing with the ultrasound the bleeding increased for a couple of days and then slowly stopped. So in total it was about a week. Try not to worry and keep resting and fx all is fine!

Oh I was thinking last night, and this might sound silly, but do I have to attend for an internal scan with a full bladder? Please say no!
Or take any other steps?

OP posts:
LittleBairn · 23/09/2014 09:46

No you don't need full bladder for internal, I was asked to empty mine. But then I do have a very large bladder, all the songraphers mention it. Blush

FreckleBee · 23/09/2014 10:23

Oh dear littlebairn that's funny. Thanks for the info, I couldn't imagine having that done with a full bladder Confused

Don't worry the probe is actually quite thin and they don't put it too far up...on and they put a condom on it. My DH sniggered like a school boy.

Purplehonesty · 23/09/2014 11:27

Hope all goes well on Friday bee.
I bled lots with dd at 6-7 weeks and thought I was having a mc
Thankfully everything was fine it was just a bleed. So scary though. Rest up like you are doing.
Dd is 2 now x

FreckleBee · 26/09/2014 17:34

Well...just to report back...I had my scan, they gave me an abdominal then internal and what they discovered was...two heartbeats!! I'm pregnant with twins!
This is why my sickness has been so terrible. The blood is apparently nothing to worry about and isn't coming from uterus or babies.
I'm still in absolute shock!
