Putting off packing my hospital bag - scared

That's it really, I'm 37 weeks with DD3 and have ELCS booked for week commencing 6th October. Obviously I could go into labour before then so should really pack a bag but it's still empty... in fact can't seem to do anything much at the moment. Paralysed with fear seems a dramatic way to put it but sort of covers how I feel at the moment. Anyone out there to hand hold slap me so I snap out of it?

What in your opinion is causing this anxiety? Have you had a cs before and how did your previous births go? An ELCS is a fairly predictable birthing method. Just breathe deeply and put one foot in front of the other, i.e. Get packing and think about meeting your precious baby

squizita · 16/09/2014 20:37

Oh I know what you mean! I kept thinking it would make me premature or ill if l was optimistic enough to be ready... like jinx! In the end I made a small deal out of it by doing one or two things a day. Bag in hall. Next day pop some spare clothes in for me. Next day buy some nappies, in they go. After that my wash-bag and some maternity pads...

Now 3 days after due date and getting impatient so clearly didn't make anything happen early! Grin

I had twins before and the birth didn't go as planned at all, ended up with EMCS after labouring then DD2 went to NICU for a week after being resuscitated. The whole experience last time was really traumatic tbh after a relatively straightforward pregnancy. I think that's why I'm worried Natalia Sad

I haven't packed mine either yet started putting a few bits in it tonight in case he comes early. 35 weeks and having a ELCS on 15/10. Also feeling nervous xx

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 16/09/2014 22:46

I didnt pack mine then last week went into spontaneous pre term labour. Thabkfully they managed to stop it, but trying to tall to my dmum over the phone about what to chuck in it and where everything was made me uber anxious.

First thing I did when I got home was repack the labour bag and shove it in the boot.of the car.

CS in the morning and mine's not quite done yet!
My terror is the inappropriate stuff DH will bring to the hospital if I don't have a bag packed..... like size 10 jeans and a g string for example.

...... so I have a kind of halfway house/ pile of stuff on top of the drawers in the nursery with all the bits like massive pants, spare pjs, baby grows all gathered together and will scoop some of it into the bag and leave some as spares at home to make it easier for DH to replenish supplies without too many howlers......
Bag packing is overrated in my opinion- it's all about not being the woman dressed in hot pants and a sequin boob tube on the postnatal ward!

parallax80 · 17/09/2014 08:55

I'm so getting a sequin boob tube... (Luckily already own the hot pants Smile)

chucklingbunny · 17/09/2014 10:08

Made a start last night then realised I haven't got all my toiletries and massive pants sorted so need to go shopping today! Glad I've made a start now though even though everything feels like such an effort at the moment.

A sequin boob tube would be quick for nursing though. Grin Even quicker in my case as it would probably only just cover one nip!!

parallax80 · 17/09/2014 13:33

See, I'm likely to have tiny babies (and...ahem...less generous endowment) so I was thinking of the boob tube as a sort of stretchy sling.

(Also, if it makes anyone feel any better about denial, I know I have a section booked for sometime in about 2 weeks but have asked them not to tell me the date as yet!)

Have got my knickers and moisturiser now! Just need to sort out coming home outfit for baby. Should finish packing today apart from that. Feeling more motivated now I've indulged in some retail therapy and got some gorgeous snuggly winter clothes for baby Grin

If packing the bag makes you anxious, just don't! Worst comes to the worst and you go early, they have pretty much everything you really need in hospital anyway. If you don't want a packed bag staring at you, leave it til the night before! Good luck. I'm sure till find your ELCS a dream after your first birth. Try to look forward to it. It will be fine x

Noodledoodledoo · 18/09/2014 14:46

I was exactly the same - I had a very good list written - I had all the stuff in the house but putting it in the bags seemed to be a huge leap.

In the end I ended up telling my DH he had to treat me like a teenager and supervise me do it to get it done!!!

To be honest I hate packing in advance for anything - I went travelling for 10 weeks and packed at about 10pm the night before I left!! I am far more efficient if I have less time.

chucklingbunny · 20/09/2014 11:17

Ok, I'm getting there...so far I have knickers and toiletries, dressing gown, nightie, nappies, wipes. That's it, no clothes for me or baby Hmm still freaked out but taking it slow and will hopefully have a ready bag by end of this weekend. Only 2 weeks to go now!
