Pain in Pregnancy

Hi

This is my first pregnancy and I have found that I am in constant pain around my back, stomach and legs.

Is this normal?
If so how can I manage this?

Also, I am not sure what side to sleep on so I have only been sleeping on my left.

Can anyone help me?

We're PREGNANT!!!! Went on our 1st holiday abroad to Tenerife, had the fertility clinic the day after we came back (15sep2014) to start on hormone tablets but I was gettin pain in my tummy thinking, here we go again, no baby this month, but I hadn't started bleeding just getting usual pains, every time I went to loo I was expecting to see blood. Started looking on net if u cud be pregnant but still get pains etc, sis was taking us to hospital or app, she brought a test to my mums, I dipped it in, I'm a div it never worked , next thing my man dips it in and I start to see the pink moving up, I think nothing of it nxt fing Jamie tells me were pregnant with tears in his eyes, I started crying to and mum and sis were so excited, but we calmed down and didn't wanna get our hopes up because we double dipped. I was shaking like a leaf and in tears, hospital was running late told Jamie he would have to talk cause I was o upset, next fing I do pee, nurse asks if trainee wants to do test, I'm squeezing Jamie so hard, they are conferring with either but I see the trainee turn and smile nxt fing they confirm were pregnant ..... Well I just broke down into the most dramatic tears ever, snoggers and everything elated at the news. She wanted to do scan cause I was gettin pains, my whole body still shaking with joy, then I lean over to Jamie asking, are we really having a baby, I can't believe after trying for 2 years and about to start on or one tablets after hols, my sis says, you couldn't write it and it so true. Jamie and I couldn't b any happier, the day b4 we left Tenerife we we're it sitting saying, imagine if we found out we were pregnant wen we got bk b the icing on the cake and it happened. I went to see if tubes were blocked on my birthday in march they weren't, the flush out must have don't the trick just like people said, gid I'm gonna greet, we're having a baby it's growing inside me right now, just wow, choked wi cold though and still getting sum pains in tummy but Jamieis taking care of his to baby's, I love our love story xxx

Hi AU2206, they say with any pain it's worth checking it out. How many weeks are you? You could get offered any early scan, I had an early scan at 7+2 due to spotting, from the scan they found a strong little heartbeat, and also something called a haematoma, which was described to me as a blood blister. So far, fingers crossed, it has not been harmful. The pain could be due to your body adapting and stretching for your baby. The backache could possibly be a sign of a water infection? Which are very common in pregnancy and can be easily treated. But that's just a possibility. I'm currently 9 weeks now and get backache if I stand up for too long or work etc, because I'm having really bad 'morning' sickness which is making me ache. Have you been sick or been retching much? I suppose that could make you ache. If you are worried I would

I have had no bleeding or vomiting.

Well no bleeding is a big positive for you! With the sleeping, I'd say however is comfortable for you. For me, I always sleep on my stomach but now I'm feeling bloated I've been sleeping on either side or my back. Like I mentioned, it can just be your body adjusting. But they do say with any pain, get it checked out. Have you booked your first midwives appointment yet? If not, they will do that for you at your first GP appointment good luck!

Well I have just noticed that I have a little bit of spotting.

Is that some to be concerned about?

You need to get yourself to an EPAU. It may be nothing at all but you have to get yourself checked out

I got mild (much milder than normal, but mine are pretty bad) period pains and some light spotting around 4-6 weeks with my first pregnancy. It was almost like my body was still going through the motions of a period even though I was pregnant. Pregnancy carried on as normal though, no problems.
At this early stage though, it's really hard to say what the pains mean. If you have a midwife already then I would ring her or the maternity unit. If not, I would go to your GP or A and E. Hopefully there's no cause for worry, but it's always best to get these things checked out.

Yeah I keep getting shooting pains in back and feels like period pains, unfortunately I've got the cold but I'm on top of the world, take care folks

AU2206 try not to panic. On my first reply above I mentioned about my haematoma. I had never heard of it before and is apparently more common than I thought. Spotting CAN be normal and harmless but do get that checked. If the spotting becomes heavy or period-like, go straight to a&e and they should be able to get you in for an early scan. There could be a number of reasons as to why you're spotting but for peace of mind, don't wait around. Good luck x
