Maternity notes from a previous pregnancy - update

Just a quick update on a post I started a few weeks ago re access to mat notes from a previous pregnancy.

If you're after a particular letter that's in your notes but don't fancy shelling out £50, ask your GP as they get a copy of any letter written about you from any hospital or consultant.

As it happens a large chunk of my notes seem to have got lost but the GP's receptionist managed to make a phone call and retrieve a copy of what I need from the hospital in question.

And on leaving hospital hang onto your notes if you plan to have another baby!

They generally take them away when you leave. I've been trying to get a look at my first lot (Homerton) for nine months now. I hope it's incompetence rather than malice that's preventing me from seeing what they wrote about my first, complicated delivery.

I've just made an appointment with the consultant to review the notes from my last labour, in the hope I can get some answers too...

I was given all my notes to give to the community midwife when I left hospital. I got them photocopied. it's actually quite nostalgic looking back on the early days and the notes the midwives wrote.

They took mine (Chelsea & Westminster) and of course when you're leaving hospital with a newborn, having another is the very last thing on your mind!
