Had a caesarian with my last child 2 years ago as he was breech and am going to try for natural birth this time. Was told by doctor that I can be in labour for 5/6 hours before they give me caesarian anyway and there is 50/60% chance of giving birth naturally. A bit scared about the whole thing as don't want to go through tough labour and then caesarian anyway, then have to come home and look after a toddler. Has anyone been through this and how did it go?

Thanks xx

Freckle, your friend's story is fab.

Our 1st DD was born after a C/section 19 years ago, since then my wife has given birth naturally to 3 more.

The first (another DD) was in hospital (Odstock, Salisbury) very good service.

The other two (both DSs) at home with one being a 17 hour labour!!! and very helpful midwife.

Twiglett, what a shame you feel you have to justify yourself like that. If I ever have another child I shall insist on a section and I make no apologies for that. The mere idea of childbirth feels me with revulsion tbh. I'm really, really glad that at my advanced age with one section behind me I almost certainly wouldn't be expected to do the writhing and grunting stuff. I'm not a bit ashamed of it either!

Twiglett, you've made an informed choice to have a c-section - sounds totally sensible to me!

If its what a woman wants or needs, and if she's been told the full, real, facts and made her own choice, thats all there is to it, isn't it? No need to justify...

The trouble is that many women get pressurised into having or not having a cs when the opposite is what they would have chosen, if they'd been given the necessary information and support.

Thanks for that Freckle. Twiglett no-one has to justify how they give birth -that's just daft. The only reason I asked is becuase during my 2nd section I was found to have bad scar tissue from my first. I assume it would be even worse now- so I just wondered if I was to have a third child whether there is another option. Good to know that it's not a definite section (although if I continued to produce children with 98th centile heads I may well opt for a section anyway - if I had a third that is).
