I had my 20 week scan yesterday and despite deciding we didn't want to know the sex we have come home with the following picture. It appears to be a shot of baby's legs spread apart (baby's bottom at the right hand side of the screen) with what appears to be boys bits in between! Although I wasn't fussed on finding out the sex, I feel this half- knowing is really not fun :-( just wondering if anyone would kindly share their views! I might have to schedule another scan to find out...thanks in advance x

Message from MNHQ - We've gone in and zapped the scan pictures in this thread as the OP's name was clearly visible on them. Sorry!

That looks like boys bits to me.

I am not a sonographer though!

jess3692 · 10/09/2014 13:38

I would say boys bits too!

WaffleWiffle · 10/09/2014 13:41

I wonder why they would give you this picture when you asked not to know the gender?

I bet the sonographer looked and clicked to save the picture while asking you if you wanted to know, rather than asking you. Often when you do ask to know the sex, they give you a picture of between the legs so you can see yourself.

I would imagine that the sonographer meant to delete this image before printing out, but forgot. There is no reason to give you a between the legs picture unless you wanted to know the gender.

WaffleWiffle · 10/09/2014 13:42

Correction: rather than after asking you

skyra13 · 10/09/2014 14:01

Defo looks like boy bits to me!!

HaPPy8 · 10/09/2014 14:27

It looks a bit like cord....dont you normally see the thigh bone when they do a gender shot?

TinyMonkey · 10/09/2014 14:54

I was also going to say that it could well be cord as opposed to boy bits.

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 10/09/2014 16:26

just to say that I know NOTHING, but when I had 20 wk scan with DS the sonographer mentioned that the fathers often see the cord and get all excited at seeing boy bits, and the sonographer has to point out that the willy is actually a LOT smaller... and if that HAD been the willy, they should be very very worried...

So, I think it's just as likely to be the cord...

Islasmum1 · 10/09/2014 18:11

Thanks ladies for your responses, I really appreciate it :-) and wifflewaffle I completely agree, I was a little surprised to see this picture ( although in fairness it was one of 30+ images the sonographer uploaded onto my pen drive) I also agree about the thigh bone not being visible although I understand from seeing other scans that depending on the angle or clarity of the picture this wouldn't always be visible. I think the picture is very zoomed in! My initial thought was that it is the umbilical cord but then I stumbled across the following image on line of a baby confirmed to be a boy and hence the confusion...
