Ok. I am booked in for a sweep this evening. I am 39 wks today and it looks like I am having a massive baby. But I have a very high bmi.

Has anyone else with high bmi had a sweep and were there any problems due to your size? X

No problems but it didn't work!

I really can't imagine what sort of problems there would be due to high bmi? Blush

Has your cervix been checked and confirmed as favourable for sweep?

Good luck!

I'm high BMI, which made me open the thread. OP, for what reason did you think there would be a problem?

Mistyautumn · 10/09/2014 12:21

Without being too graphic. I have previously been for a smear test when nurse had trouble performing it without another hcp present due to 'access issues' thanks to my tree trunk like legs.

Feel very self conscious about this today. Xx

I have what is called a 'recessed cervix', in that it is positioned far back and tilted away. It makes any cervical examinations (smear, dilation checks in labour and sweeps) more difficult and painful.

I have always thought the recessed cervix was entirely separate to my BMI. I don't think that is anything to do with BMI. Certainly I have never been lead to believe it is to do with weight.

I have bmi 34 so I'm 'obese.' I had a sweep today, no issues. Whether it will work is another matter.

No, i really dont think bmi normally causes a problem.

Its normally only iif you have a difficultly positioned cervix that they have trouble, which is down to biology rather than weight (or so i was lead to believe last time - when they had trouble even checking my cervix, due to its very high, far back position and difficult angle).

Well I survived and it was viable to do it. Hurrah. Now all we need to do is see if it will work. Xx
