Induction experiences for second baby?

I am due to be induced on Sunday if DC2 has not turned up by then. I will be bang on 40 weeks, being induced due to big baby and complications with DC1.

DC1 was 10 days overdue but labour occured naturally, waters broke, contractions started and DS was there 12 hours later.

I just wondered what other peoples experiences were of being induced second time around? The MW said it's often a bit easier, currently my cervix is soft and shortened but hasn't dilated enough for a sweep, they are going to attempt another one tomorrow (fingers crossed).

I feel I have made the right decision to be induced it's just all friends that have been induced have had a long old slog resulting in forceps or c-section and now I'm worried!

Both my inductions (at 38 weeks) were quick once the drip was in an my waters broken (although a lot of waiting around before that due to labour ward being busy). Both vaginal deliveries without forceps/ventouse and with very little pushing tbh.

I have no experience but following this thread as in a similiar situation.

I'm 40+5 with dc2 who is predicted to be a big baby, although I've nlt had a growth scan ds was over 9lb at 40+11.

I have a sweep tomorrow and will be given an induction date.

I was induced with DC2 for GD and had had a natural birth with DC1.

Induction with DC2 was fairly straightforward, I was 2-3cm 24 hours after the pessary was put in, then had my waters broken and gave birth pretty soon afterwards, I wasn't put on the drip. No interventions required and nothing but gas and air.

I was told the same thing that if you have laboured naturally with your first and induced with subsequent pregnancies. Hopefully it holds true with DC3 here!

DS, my first baby, came at 40+1, after an 11 hour labour.

DD, now 9 weeks old, was induced at 41+4. I had the gel on my cervix, and was sent home from the hospital because it didn't work - no contractions, no noticeable change in the cervix. This was at noon. I was to go back in the evening for another try.

At 1:45 my waters broke, my first contraction was shortly after. DD arrived at 3:35, after a dash across the city to the hospital where I nearly gave birth in the lobby. Three pushes, and she was out.

Just a warning that it may be a lot faster this time, particularly when induction drugs/chemicals are involved! Smile

Thank you that's making me feel better about it!
I'm more than happy if it happens quickly, I have been told once they start the process I won't be allowed home so at least I won't have the worry of it happening at home!

Still hoping that baby might decide to arrive before Sunday!

DS1 came naturally at 40+8 after 12 hours.

With DS2 I was induced at 40+10 due to problems with the placenta. I had my waters broken at about 9am which did very little, and had the drip at around midday - DS2 was then born just after 4pm, so 4 hours labour. Hard and fast but with no other intervention apart from the original drip. When I say hard and fast I mean it, he surprised everyone with the speed he shot out, the midwives weren't close enough to the bed to catch him and he literally bounced on the mattress before anyone got him (I was on my knees holding onto the headboard)

I was induced with numbers 3 & 4 and it was very quick and reasonably easy.

I think (although it's just a guess) that early inductions are in some ways more likely to be quick and easy than late ones. Some of the late inductions will be due to the baby not being in a good position (hence being late). The induction is not going to help with that. I was induced for GD so nothing to do with positioning wtc and was lucky that my babies flew out.

I was induced with DC2... 40+12 and my cervix was high and closed apparently. I had the gel at 11am, by 5pm I was 2-3 cm dilated and contracting, by 9pm I was in full labour, and she was born just after midnight! Once the gel had got me going it was just like a normal labour and I only needed gas and air. Good luck!
