Pregnancy between 12 and 20 weeks - what to expect

I've just turned 12 weeks, and feeling good about that. I had a scan at what was 10+3, where I saw a healthy baby.

I won't be having a scan at my appointment this weeks, so I'm just wondering what continuing symptoms I can look for until the 20 week scan.

How can I reassure myself that I'm still pregnant and the baby is growing?
Just wait for my tummy to grow a little more outwards?

I had sickness and nausea until 19 weeks so that reassured me!

Your tummy might grow outwards and you might start to feel movements towards the 20 week mark.

Missingcaffeine · 09/09/2014 08:53

Until you start feeling movements, you just have to trust that if you're feeling well and no bleeding/pain, all is likely to be good. If it's your first, you may not feel movements until after your 20 week scan though. I didn't feel anything until 23 weeks, and some people don't until even later. Your bump will grow a bit - probably in little spurts.

In my second pregnancy I used to forget I was pg Grin

Symptoms disappeared, and my bump, whilst present, was small and a bit squidgy. Itd take me a second to click when people said "are you excited?".

By 24 weeks I was starting to get back intothe pregnancy swing and starting to feel tired and bleurgh again.

It's tough but u will drive yourself potty looking for symptoms. I literally didn't have anything (no sickness no sore boobs no fatigue) until 20 weeks ish where I started to feel some movement and didn't get a bump till 27/28 weeks. So just had to trust that if I felt ok athen baby was ok. I guess the next thing to look towards would be the 16wk mark as some mw may try to listen for a heart beat. Some do and some don't though so don't bank on it Smile

from 12 to 18 I had nothing, everything settled, sore breasts dissappeared and I felt fine. I looked like a tubster, not pregnant! lol

Then between 18 and 20 weeks I started getting back ache and muscle ache near my ribs (I guess a lot of stretching going on)

I've had a few "flutters" but barely worth speaking of. When I had my 20 wk scan my baby wasn't moving anywhere near as much as my 10 and 12wk scans, so it must be getting more chilled out!!

I still haven't felt much... so I wouldn't worry too much :)

at my MW appointment in between (about 16w) she let us listen to the heartbeat, that was nice and reassuring. :)

Roseblossom2 · 09/09/2014 09:02

Sorry should have said when I said I still haven't felt much - I'm 21 weeks today :)

kitkat321 · 09/09/2014 09:04

I agree that movement is probably the only thing that will reassure you - I'm pregnant with my first and felt movement - really property kicks - at 18 +5 but have heard that many don't feel til much later with their first.

Re symptoms - everyone is different. In that 12 to 20 week window I had pretty constant nausea, some sickness, lots of burping/retching, a sore back, cramping (which caused minor panic but is apparently normal) and extreme tiredness but I have friends who had none of that.

Re bump growth - I was very bloated in the first 18 weeks and bump actually seemed to get smaller as the bloating went down. It's was only really from 20 weeks that I properly started to grow and now I'm huge (or so everyone likes to tell me!)

Maybe if you want further reassurance you could book a private scan? You quite often get groupon discounts so keep an eye out for that.

Thanks for all the responses.

My sickness died down after a couple of weeks (weeks 5 - 7), boobs have been and still are very tender and BIG!

I'm not keen on extra scans, so I think it's a case of keeping busy and taking my mind off it, and waiting for bump to grow!

There's not a lot to be honest. I'm currently 23+6 and until 20 I just looked podgy and felt fine. From 20 weeks bumped seemed to pop out and flutters became more frequent and obvious and now it's proper kicks. Trust your body to let you know if there is a problem and enjoy feeling fine!

I have an angel sounds Doppler so have been able to have a little listen on the days I needed convincing since about 12 weeks! Now 26 weeks and there's no doubt with all the wriggling going on.

RetroHippy · 10/09/2014 20:06

Currently 21 weeks and the agony in my boobs finally seems to be easing up. Or I've just got used to it.

Nausea between weeks 9 and 14, but only threw up a couple of times.

Bump showed up around week 16 and is now very noticeable! Started getting the odd flutter too around 18 weeks, now it's pretty regular but muffled due to an anterior placenta.

Not much in the way of tiredness, other than the usual end-of-term-itis.

Did have a scary bleed at 16 weeks, but all my Googling pointed to it being unlikely to be concerning once into the second tri. Got a scan because of it though, which was lovely as baby is fine. Just mentioned it as it can happen and I was petrified.

Starting to feel very pregnant now; achey hips and back, feeling bulky and slow and struggling to sleep. Also began getting leg cramps in the early morning. The first 20 weeks were a breeze!

thatsn0tmyname · 10/09/2014 20:21

I started horrendous snoring at 17 weeks that lasted until the end. Nosebleeds and blood when nose blowing came too. Get the book "what to expect".... But don't bother with the film. Hope all's going well.

Jaffakake · 10/09/2014 20:37

Last time I swear it felt baby whooshing about inside. It was like little tickles or bubbles. I'm sure it was baby & not my bowels!

Ticktick · 10/09/2014 22:18

I had a pretty symptomless first trimester so there wasn't any change between 12-15 wks. But then my tummy suddenly got larger and my waist increased by 1.5 inches almost overnight! There isn't an obvious bump but I'm looking very chunky in the middle region. Now I'm 17 wks and noticing my boobs are growing again, they feel engorged, hot and nipples a bit itchy at times. Started to have a few baby moving sensations, a few bubbles and pressure feelings like a rolling moving inside my belly.

LBNM19 · 11/09/2014 08:53

I was sick till 16 weeks, heartburn started. But generally felt well from 16-20 weeks then the tiredness started, pregnant with DC2 and didn't feel movment till 22 weeks, I think that's when I was finally reassured xx

DontBeBlueBeARainbow · 12/09/2014 06:55

Thanks for all your comments, it's reassuring and I will try to enjoy the time by travelling on the weekends I think, I've got a few trips lined up. Then I can look back on then when I never have free me-time again!

Nice to hear from you Cheshire2b as we had the same original due date before my MMC in May. Glad it's going well for you, and seems I'm only 11 weeks behind you - amazing body!

Not looking forward to heartburn, not experienced before...
