Hi All

I'm new to this forum but recently found out I am expecting my first Smile

I was just wondering when you all had your first MW appointment? I called the community MW when I first found out (5w) and was told I would receive an appt and scan date in the post. I have heard nothing and now 7+6.

I called the MW today as I am going on a biz trip for a week, end of Sept and was worried about a clash, the lady I spoke to told me they haven't got to me yet, and they would look to give me my first booking in appt by 12+4, I asked if I would have a scan on this appt too, but she said no they would be separate and the scan would be hopefully before 13+6...

This seems so late to me to be having my first appt, when did you have/ have you got your first appointment?

I was booked in at roughly 10 weeks and scanned at 12+4.

Just out of curiosity, do you need to wait for them to assign you an appointment? I just rang and booked myself to see the MW at my local surgery. Once I'd been booked in, my MW put the paperwork through to get me a scan.

I am in Wales though, so things possibly work differently where you are. It's worth investigating whether you can self-refer though Smile

Every area is different! Literally my friends who live 30 minutes away went through a completely different process than I did, even though we ended up having our children in the same hospital Confused

Thanks for the replies. Twiglet - I called my GP to book an appointment and they just gave me the number of the community MW, so I called them and was told they will send me an appointment date!

It all seems so long, it's my first so I haven't got a clue what to expect etc and it doesn't seem real at the moment I was hoping having the appointment and asking all my questions and having a scan date would help reassure me everything was ok. Maybe I'm just too impatient for my own good Wink

Saw the doctor at 5 weeks, then had to wait for what felt like forever until I saw the Midwife at 10 +6, then had my first scan at 13+2. I think I could have just called the doctors and asked for a midwife appointment, but I didn't realise that at the time.

Seems bit if a wait and for the scan . I had my booking in at 10 weeks scan just over 12 . I dont think it really matters in terms of saftey & health but it can be very frustrating wait for the magic 12 weeks see if you can hurry them along a bit

Scoobsmam13 · 08/09/2014 16:44

Its super busy in my area, booking in was at just over 15 weeks, but the m/w called me and sent off the scan referral previous to that and I was scanned at 14+4.
It did seem like a long time to wait, however this is my second so I don't know if I was pushed down the list slightly under FTMs

Booking apt at 11 weeks, scan at 12+3. First scan should be before 14 weeks if you want to have the nt test

skyra13 · 08/09/2014 17:11

I saw my midwife at 6 weeks due to mes sup with my date and holidays getting in the way!

I am currently 10 weeks and waiting for a scan letter, i found out today though that my mid wife had not even referred me to the hospital so i have been very angry today.

Normally you see mid wife 8 to 10 weeks either at doctors or hospital then appointment for scan between 10 to 14 weeks if everything had gone fine with your pregnancy that is usually what happens.

DanyStormborn · 08/09/2014 21:34

My booking was at 11 weeks but this was late for my area (midwife forgot me!). As long as it is before your scan (with a couple of days grace so the midwife can type up your notes) it's OK. When I got to my scan the receptionist was just tutting saying my midwife hadn't brought any notes in for me when my midwife ran in carrying my notes! Not sure if this makes a difference but in my area urine and bloods are done at the antenatal clinic straight after the scan. The booking appointment is just for taking medical history and explaining screening tests where I am, it's done as a home visit.

Squidge14 · 09/09/2014 09:27

Thank you for your responses, it's good to know it varies, I was just hoping it would be a bit quicker (but I am very impatient!) and I do want the nt test so I will give them another nudge if I don't hear from them soon. it's so frustrating I feel like I've been waiting forever! I also think I would have been seen quicker if I hadn't know the date of my last period, which I actually did for the first time in god knows how long...typical!

Thanks again everyone Thanks

I found out I was pregnant at 11 weeks. Called the MW, got my first app for 2 weeks later which was last Thursday. Was in for 5 minutes, got given a load of sh*tty leaflets and asked to come back Tuesday (today). Then MW called, said I was double booked, and asked me to come back Friday.

I am now 14 weeks, still havent had my booking in appointment, or a scan date.

Luckily enough I paid for a private reassurance scan where they dated it, found out I was 12 weeks and everything was fine :)

Wish I hadnt told MW and docs that right away though, maybe they wouldnt be taking so long with my official dating scan :(
