First Midwife Appointment on Wednesday- What to Expect?

So il be 8 weeks at my appointment, I have had 2 previous early mc's, so every day is a blessing at the moment Smile I have already had an early scan due to past mc's and spotting- thankfully all is ok, seen baby with heartbeat and I also have a small hematoma. So I have my first Midwife Appointment this coming Wednesday at my doctors. I am very excited but haven't a clue what to expect!
E.g. How long the appointment will last?
Will they have equipment at my doctors where il be able to hear the heartbeat?
I really don't know! Smile

This will be a long appointment, mine was 45 mins I think, as your MW will need to begin completing your paperwork. Make sure you know any family history of illnesses on both yours and your partner's side as you'll need that.

It's unlikely you'll hear the heartbeat at this appointment, I didn't with my MW until 24 weeks first time round, and 16 weeks with DC2.

Good luck!

Thank you misslaughalot I'm excited, even if it is just paperwork! Grin

I love filling forms in so first appointment was exciting for me! Grin They'll ask tons of questions about medical history, and whether you and the baby's father are related, which always seems to shock people! If any indicators come up they'll talk about referring you to a consultant. They'll also weigh you and measure your height, and take some bloods and your blood pressure. It'll take about 30-60 mins. Oh and they'll give you your big blue book of notes to carry around with you, which is exciting!
Congratulations and good luck!

Ooh I'm excited now peaceloveandbiscuits! I like forms too ha ha, blood tests make me feel a bit queasy but I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks! x

Had mine this morning. One thing to note- they want a wee sample so have a drink first! I was busting when I got there but didn't know and went straight to the loo- hubby was booking me into reception when I came out and the receptionist said 'were you doing your sample?' Had to go straight back in and force a bit more out lol!

Got all the forms filled out and then the second part of the appointment is in a week or so but at our house.

Good luck!

Oh I forgot the sample! I actually couldn't force one out at my first appointment, but they let me drop it off later ;)

How did it go Rosey?

Roseylee20 · 11/09/2014 16:49

Hi misslaughalot, it went fine actually thank you. Although my first wee sample was a rubbish attempt! I has to go and try again at the end of the appointment! Midwives were lovely, they are going to send me a letter out in the next couple of weeks with the appointment of my "first" scan (I had an early one). They gave me some great leaflets and booklets - one particular one called Emma's Diary which has everything and anything I could possibly want/need to know! Makes me excited but haven't looked thoroughly through them yet as it's hard for me to get proper excited due to the previous mc's. Hope all is well with you! Thanks x
