Bleeding during early pregnancy (after BM- tmi sorry!)

Hello all, I'm new on here and have recently found out I'm in very early stages of my first pregnancy, about 4 weeks! I've not used a forum before so hope I am doing so correctly :)

I'm very concerned and was hoping to find out if people have had similar experiences to me.

I have been spotting regularly for around a week and a half now. (Implantation bleed apparently) Period pains are present, but I'm not in agony. Because of this, my doctor has been monitoring my hcg levels and yesterday I found out that they are doing what they should be (doubling) which I'm delighted about. I am getting a referral to an epu unit which is good, so they can continue to monitor them.

I'm very concerned though as for the past few days I have been passing red blood whenever I have a bowel movement (sorry!) and it really is upsetting to see. It's present on the tissue. Has anyone else experienced this? Other than that, the dark spotting seems to be settling.

I'm obviously looking out for any little change as its my first time, but I think that red blood in particular is supposed to be bad.

Thanks all for reading. :)

Are you passing red blood from your vagina or anus?

1983jojo · 08/09/2014 12:57

Sorry for not making that clear- it's from vagina....

When you have your bowels open the pressure exerted forces whatever blood is in the cervix area to come out! It is blood that would have come out anyway you are just speeding it up that's why it coincides with having a poo! Hope that helps, good luck, stay strong I bled like this with my now 7 and 5 year DCs. It's not always a bad sign.

Maybe give your doctors a ring or your local midwife unit at your hospital or a walkin center doesn't sound right to me, I haven't suffered with bleeding but i know alot of people do.

I'd say speak to the doctor see if an early scan is possible if you are worried, if not if bleeding stops take another pregnancy test to see if you are still pregnant.

Sorry this is happening but id seek some advice from doctors. Flowers

Thanks for the replies :) yes they are scanning me at 6 weeks so I've just been told. It seems a long time to Walt though. Lilybensmum1 if you don't mind me asking- did you bleed for a while? And quite a lot? I suppose at times like this you'd just like to hear that others have experienced it!

I had what you are describing at around 5 weeks. It started as blood dripping into the toilet then was spotting just when I wiped then some in my knickers. It was worse after a bowel movement. I tried to not strain and to eat more fibre so I wouldn't get constipated. That's great that they are measuring your HCG, my doctor wouldn't do that so I tried to monitor it myself with Clear Blue digital tests which did show the weeks going up as get should. Then the EPU wouldn't scan me as they said the bleeding had to be heavy to warrent a scan. I'm glad your getting better monitoring. Although the bleeding stopped by six weeks and the morning sickness started I did worry and had some more tiny amounts of spotting right up to 12 weeks but my scan was fine and all seems to be going well at 14 weeks.

This really has been helpful. It's great knowing that this can continue and it's not necessarily always bad news. :)

I'm 18 weeks and have been bleeding on and off since 10 weeks. Big bleeds after sex and small bleeds when wiping after a bm. I'm now on lactoluse .
This is normal for me but it's made worse by my mushy cervix (previous surgery)

@1983jojo hi. I know your post is years old but i came across it. I’ve had the bleeding/spotting with BMs and in very early stages of pregnancy (4 weeks tomorrow). What was the outcome of your pregnancy? Also- did it continue?
Thanks!
X

MintGreenLife · 25/02/2021 14:08

Could be something like a polyp on your cervix (I have this) or cervical sensitivity due to being pregnant. I had spotting at 10 weeks - am now 17+4, so know how terrifying it can be. I didn't know I had a polyp but was seen by EPU and that was found to be the cause of the spotting x

NewbieB · 25/02/2021 14:37

@MintGreenLife thanks, that’s really helpful. I so have a sensitive cervix anyway i think as often bleed a tint bit after sex or a big BM (sorry TMI). So hoping perhaps it’s just implantation bleeding as still within 3 days or sensitive but not going to be relaxing properly until that scan 🤞🏼

MintGreenLife · 25/02/2021 14:40

@NewbieB polyps can cause bleeding after sex, as can a cervical ectropion, don't think either are too much to worry about. I've been assured the polyp won't cause any issues in my pregnancy. Might be worth getting checked though, as I feel much better knowing I have the polyp and the spotting isn't caused by my pregnancy, although I only had it on and off at 10 weeks for a week or so and none since x

NewbieB · 25/02/2021 14:45

@MintGreenLife interesting. I was examined last month by GP who said I still have a tiny bit of ectropian so it could be that and perhaps has worsened in early pregnancy for some reason? Doc said to wait till 6 weeks and then if still bleeding and still pregnant will refer me to Early Pregnancy.

MintGreenLife · 25/02/2021 16:46

@NewbieB blood flow to your pelvic area is massively increased in pregnancy, so highly likely that’s what’s causing it. Keep in touch with your GP and push to get checked out if you’re worried. At the point I was seen by EPU I had had spotting for 4 days x

NewbieB · 25/02/2021 18:04

Thanks, will do. Appreciate your replies 🥰

Can I just ask what the outcome was for everyone please. Im having the same problem had a miscarriage last time hoping for better news this time.

SezzyD · 11/12/2021 18:17

Hiya, I'm currently 6 weeks. I had a miscarriage last year but was spotting alot and had alot of cramping. This time round I have no spotting at all but mild cramps.
I've had a little bit of red blood after bm from my vagina which has now put the fear of god into me. I'm petrified, please let me know if this is normal. I am struggling alot with vm at the moment so I need to increase my fibre intake. Any suggestions?
