First BFP!! but confused by advice

My DH and I have been TTC for about 6 months and we just got our very first BFP! We are both very excited but DH doesn't want to tell anyone yet, incase we jinx it. I'm dying to tell someone so that's why I'm here :-).
Also I just wanted to check if advice I got from my doctor's surgery is normal as it contradicts the NHS choices website. I rang the surgery this morning to make an appointment with the doctor (as recommended on NHS choices website). I was told by the receptionist that unless I'm actually ill or don't want to continue with the pregnancy then I don't see a doctor at all, she just booked me an appointment with the midwife for when I am about 8 weeks gone, which is in about 5 weeks time, and until then I just sit tight and wait. She told me that's how it's done now and the website is out of date. Is that your experiance?

Congratulations !
Yep straight to the midwife for me bit easier to be honest as I was able to change my midwife at the start as we did not get on in slightest

Different GP surgeries do it different ways. At my old GP you had to go in and they tested your pee, at my new one they just book you in with the midwife...

Congratulations Thanks

Some areas (like mine) you go through the GP and they do the referral and some you just book straight to the midwife. The first midwife appointment is the booking in appointment at 8 weeks where they go through you and your partner's medical history and take your blood. Til then you don't need to do anything!

Congratulations! That sounds quite normal these days. I had my booking in last week with the midwife although I have seen the dr too because I have other medical issues.

Exactly what I did, although my trainer's practice insist on seeing everyone. I have no idea why, he couldn't answer any of her questions when I sat in the other week and we had a lady come in for mw referral.
