Bleeding Hematoma Question in Early Pregnancy

Roseylee20 · 06/09/2014 21:13

Hi everyone. I'm currently pg 7+4 so still early, but after 2 previous mc's at around 6 weeks I now want to feel hopeful! Went for an early scan on Thursday due to light spotting, first red/pink then brown, saw baby on scan and strong heartbeat, so u burst into tears with happiness. Was told some blood could be seen at the bottom which was possibly old blood. After the scan I went and had a talk with the nurse for results and was told I had a small hematoma adjacent to gestation sac. Was told it is rarely associated with misscarriage and baby is doing fine, and go only go back to the hospital
if I have bright red bleeding with clots. Since them I have still had brown spotting daily on and off, but today I had a pinky red bleed to. When I say bleed I mean again spotting, only when I wipe occasionally. Obviously red blood is worrying me and just want to know if anyone else has had a hematoma near the sac and has brown blood and pinky red blood. I do overthink but can't seem to relax because of previous mc's, and this time I saw baby which I never have done before :-( I have my first midwife appointment at the doctors this coming Wednesday, but didn't know whether to go for another scan! Paranoid. Any help or advice would be great, thank you x

I had a similar thing just over a week ago - went for an early scan at 9+3 weeks due to a small amount of red bleeding. I've also had 2 previous miscarriages (before my daughter who is now 2) so I was really worried, in fact I was convinced it was over. We saw a healthy baby and heartbeat, and the bleeding tailed off over the next 4 days. I have my dating scan next week, but I honestly think that if they weren't worried it's probably going to be okay. Try to relax about it (I know how hard that is) but if you saw the baby that's good news.

Thank you twittwoo, I'm glad for you! I will update when I know more, thanks it's always a worrying time after mc's x

Good luck. I think if you're at all worried and there's red blood there's no harm getting in touch with them again. They might offer you another scan which would hopefully put your mind at ease. How are things now? I was also passing odd tissue stuff (sorry if TMI) which really worried me but there's nothing now, and I still have pregnancy symptoms so although still a bit anxious, I feel okay about it. You're right - after miscarriages we worry about everything I think. Are you getting any symptoms? I'll also let you know how things go after my 12 week scan, as it sounds a very similar situation. From the huge amount of googling I've done (I know I shouldn't!) I think most of these situations turn out fine, so hopefully that will be the case for both of us. x

Just to say I had this when I was 6-7 weeks. I had an early scan and saw heatbeat etc. On the information they gave me they said blood would either re-absorb or come out so to expect further bleeding. I had brown and pinky spotting about 2 weeks after that. I'm now 19 weeks had no bleeding since and can feel beanie kicking! Good luck OP x

BeetleandBug · 07/09/2014 09:09

I had a big red bleed at 9 weeks and then a week of brown bleeding and then 3 week's of spotting due to a haematoma. I'm now almost 30 weeks, so just hang on in there.

Thanks everyone I love hearing others stories, I'm glad all of you are doing ok, this morning it is brown again. Sometimes I have bits like that which now you have described it as old tissue, that's exactly what it looks like, sorry TMI! And yes I would love to hear how you get on at your 12 week scan, I will also update after my first midwife appointment on Wednesday. Hi broody yes I was told that too, I had never even heard of a hematoma before my scan. I'm glad your doing well! Thank you beetle, that's great to hear x

Hi, I had/have a hematoma. Had very heavy bleeds w/clots from pretty early on, up to about 6 weeks ago. I'm now 25 weeks. I almost got used to the bleeding. So much so, I wouldn't go to the docs when it happened! I say, unless you're in any pain, try not to worry. Easier said than done, I KNOW! But if you're ever concerned, call your gp to refer you to epu. Good luck!

ceara · 08/09/2014 08:56

Sorry you are going through this OP. Just to say that I had spotting from a hematoma from 6 weeks until into the second trimester, including a couple of red bleeds. As has been said, the blood has to either reabsorb or come out so ongoing spotting is pretty normal though seeing it does always make you anxious. My pregnancy was IVF, after a chemical pregnancy from my previous IVF cycle, so I can empathise with anxiety and I would echo what has already been said here about calling EPU or your midwife for reassurance if you need to. Stay away from Dr Google and hang in there! Most times with spotting from hematoma there are positive outcomes, mine is crawling round the floor gurgling as I type. Fingers crossed for you.

beetle so glad to hear that you are doing well and 30 weeks now. I remember you from the ivf worriers thread. Really happy for you.

kkllww · 08/09/2014 08:59

I also had a haematoma in the first trimester and had 3 heavy bleeds, followed by weeks of spotting. I had regular scans after each bleed but at the 12 week one they couldn't see the haematoma any more. I'm sure everything will be fine for you - I was told that most of the time they just eventually get absorbed. Good luck x

Roseylee20 · 08/09/2014 09:27

Thanks everyone - so it's more common than I thought- considering before Thursday I hadn't a clue they existed! I'm so glad of everyone's support. Currently since last night I have no spotting at all, although I know this can start up again so I suppose il have to wait and see. Thankfully I've had no pain. ceara that's lovely to hear your positive outcome, and yes I have learnt to stay away from Google! loveallmyboys I would say I'm used to the spotting now, too! I'm glad your pregnancy is going well. Thank you kkllww I'm glad yours went well, im hoping mine will eventually get absorbed too. I've been told by the nurse at EPU to avoid heavy lifting etc. so I really am trying to take it easy over these next few weeks! x

Just a quick update for anyone who's still looking - after the red bleeding it turned to brown again, and I have since had the same thing. A pinky fluid but the brown again. And then mostly nothing. Hopefully all is ok as it comes with no pain but i have my first midwifes appointment tomorrow so if I find out anything, il let you all know x

Hope you got on ok...

Roseylee20 · 11/09/2014 16:54

Hi loveallmyboys- yes midwives appointment was fine thank you- nothing much to report- they agreed that if the blood was red or I was clotting then I should refer back to the EPU. Still feeling poorly - I seemed to perk up yesterday afternoon but then today I was sick at work Blush. The midwives said if I felt bad constantly then I could see if the GP would possibly sign me off work for a couple of days/weeks. Really trying my best for it not to come to that though! Hope you are all ok Thanks

You have my sympathy. I felt rough as a bears bottom in the early stages. Was never actually sick but spent a lot of time retching! Fun times. You'll be pleased to know I'm feeling pretty good now, so look forward to that light at the end if the tunnel!
Glad MW apt went ok. Maybe a couple days off will do you good. I'd bite their hand off if they offer you a sick note!x
