Horrible Cold - what can i take?

Feeling sorry for myself now! Have been getting the signs of a cold over the last few days and now i am sure one is coming.

Constantly sneezing, running nose, sore throat..........What can i take?

Pressume i cannot take anythign as strong as beechams etc but am i able to have strepsils? hot lemon and disprin? sympathy?

You can take paracetamol but I wouldn't take disprin.

Much sympathy, am in same boat.

I too am worried as I think I have early symptoms too. Keep sneezing and coughing, but it could be early hayfever - hurrah as antihistimene is definitely out too!!

Am going to drink honey and lemon, and cram as much vitmin C down my neck as possible.

And double sympathy is compulsory, so here is a ((((hug)))). Hope you feel better soon.

Hot chocolate. The steam is medicinal - clears your nasal passages. And the chocolate is ....yummy

paracetamol. i found steam inhalations very, very useful last time - with some olbas oil or karvol in the water. highly recommended.

Thanks guys - does anyone know on the Strepsils front? My throat is the worst thing at the mo and what with spending all day on the telephone at work i'd give another 2 days before it goes completely!

Beansprout you can take Piriton (antihistamine!!!) - thats what I did when had DD - prescribed so must have been ok!!

you could try gargling with soluble paracetamol - gargling is really good for sore throats - I usually start giggling though and end up choking and spluttering all over the bathroom!

sorry, don't know about strepsils, but honey would be a good remedy. it is naturally antiseptic and will soothe your throat.

Twinkie - that's great- thank you!! I also have a really horrible cat allergy and my mum has two of them, so AHs are a real necessity when I go to visit! Am off to the docs!

Piriton is one of the more old fashioned anti histamines, which can make you VERY drowsy. So be careful driving.

I think Strepsils and similar are not recommended, esp in early pregnany. At least that's what i was told by pharmacist when i had horrid cold in first few months.Just the honey and glycerine type sweets . Sorry - hope you feel better

Thanks all - going to my mums for dinner tonight so DP can watch the shitty footie with the "Lads" (Leaning my brother and dad)!
At least i will get plenty of sympathy fron her.

Oh blimey, the thought of being any more tired is a bit daunting!! Maybe just stay away from the moggies for a bit (don't like them anyway).

Pollen won't be so easy though.

Try slicing and boiling a lemon in water for about 15 mins. Pour into a mug and add honey to taste. You get the benefit of the steam, vit C in the lemons and the antibacterial\soothing of the honey. Great also for a cough - decant into a flask and sip when cough takes hold.... works for me.

Oh no ! I didn't realise Strepsils are a no-no and have already taken some a few days ago. I also confess to taking a Lempsip too. I hope I haven't done an irrevesible damage now

Much sympathies SC, I have had a horrid cold now for a week and just can't seem to shift it. I found gargling with salt water helps the sore throat.
