I know that generally nothing is proven to work and baby will come when ready but has anyone got any tried and tested tips to get things going?

I had a sweep yesterday and have been doing lots of walking and when at home am between chasing a 2.5year old around and bouncing on a birthing ball! Just want this baby out now so willing to try pretty much anything!

Flossie - I think you might be onto something there! Plus it's a win win either way...

Crownjewel · 06/09/2014 18:58

Flossie, I was thinking along the same lines - had planned to take myself off to the pictures tomorrow in the hope that things start to get moving, just as the film gets to a really good part... Smile

I've just read in my manual breast pump booklet that practicing during pregnancy can bring on labour. Is that an option!?

Either that or apparently tweaking your nips gets things going.

imisssleepandwine · 08/09/2014 13:50

Have any babies arrived yet??? I had a sweep today, no sign of anything but the doctor said the head is right down and I'm 2cm dilated. So she thinks the sweep may work over the next 48 hours. Fingers crossed.

ODearMe · 08/09/2014 13:54

Go on a swing, it worked for me! Grin

VestaCurry · 08/09/2014 13:59

A Reflexology session worked for me. It was specifically tailored to 'get things going'. It wasn't like other sessions I'd had where it was all totally relaxing. There was one part of my foot she kept coming back to focus on and it was bloody uncomfortable but she said it was the area of the foot relating to the uterus. She said it would stimulate the uterus. It did - I went into labour about 10 hours later! £40 well spent.

Have been trying out some of your ideas but sorry to say no baby here yet :( have had two sweeps and had 6/7 hours of early labour contractions on Friday evening and when mw examined me she said I was 3cm (and did the second sweep). That was Saturday morning and here I am with baby still firmly inside me :( got third and final sweep booked for Wednesday but otherwise looks like I'm headed for induction number 2 on Friday :( anyone else having any luck? Xxx

No baby here either, I had a sweep yesterday, lost my plug last night and got some period like pains today, also feeling some pressure but no sign of real labour yet. It's starting to get upsetting. Everyday I get my hopes up and nothing!!! My induction will be Sunday if we've had no movement by then. 5 more nights seems like and age.

Miriama · 10/09/2014 22:55

Nothing happening over here, but have been grumpy and tired the past few days and reached peak nesting the other day by demanding to go to ikea for storage units at 8pm on Saturday night. Sigh, please comr soon baby!

CoolCat2014 · 11/09/2014 04:22

Nothing happening over here either, 40+9 now, sweep today, if nothing then induction on Monday :(

Trying a last attempt by eating a whole tin of prunes... I like the idea of booking into a hotel & spa!

flowerbombVR · 11/09/2014 10:10

Good luck all of you it certainly won't be long now x
I'm watching with interest . We are ttc and reading this us exciting :)
Walking - with wedge heeled boots on at 40 + 4! That's what made my ds move. Mw had arranged that day to get me in and get it started 6 days later which I didn't want dh and I walked on mws advice and waters popped at 10pm that night next night. I do think the wedge heels had something to do with it :)
Won't be long xx

dancing round the living room to daft punk, eating dates, early evening out with friends to try to stop obsessing about it. I think number three worked best, but the daft punk definitely contributed.
Cake for everyone. good luck

vvviola · 12/09/2014 04:50

Not much practical help but: arrange for your midwife/obstetrician/whoever to be out of the country. Worked for me Grin

2 pregnancies
DD1: 3.5 weeks early, on only weekend obstetrician was away
DD2: 39+4 arrived the day obstetrician had been called out of the country on family business. He was only away one day.

Along the same lines as Flossie... Get yourself to the cinema! I thought waters broke there just because I really wanted to see the film, but have since been told the loud music/surround-sound can get things going! Incidentally, I had planned to go to the cinema on the day I was induced (early) with my first, so am clearly not meant to watch a film on the big screen - ever! With 3 kids under 3, it probably won't happen again, anyway Wink

PrincessPotsie · 12/09/2014 05:51

I tried nearly all of these when pregnant with my three and nothing worked I'm afraid. Didn't try the cinema one though. I know the grass is always greener but I'm so jealous of you, your pregnant tummies and the excitement of when you'll finally get to meet your babies. Good luck to you all!

Jemima1988 · 12/09/2014 08:20

watching this for any advice I'm dying to get this baby out especially with the heat making life so uncomfortable
I'm on raspberry leaf, pineapple, bouncing on my ball and LONG walks I have had a few twinges...... They come the more I walk and bounce but no show yet Sad Sad

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2014 08:24

No baby here - I'm also heading for induction number 2 on Tuesday when I'll be exactly 42 weeks. It turns out I don't give up being pregnant easily... SadGrin

Cerealaddict · 12/09/2014 08:39

I've been trying everything since it turned September to get this baby outta me, now 40+5

I must have had every symptom, plug, show, period pain, back ache, stronger bh, upset tummy, flu like, loose bowels, burst of energy, majorly dropped bump, bloody everything except contractions and waters breaking.

Bouncing on ball, walks, sex, curry. Didn't bother with pineapple as heard you need lots and I hate the stuff, been avoiding other methods as heard they can bring on strong contractions that don't actually dilate which I don't fancy but may get desperate over weekend, got 1st sweep booked for Monday.

Gonna take myself on another walk today but it gives me such a bad back!

pinkteapots · 12/09/2014 09:56

duzzlightyear this is your induction date isnt it? Good luck! Hope it goes well and yummy cuddles soon

duzzlightyearsmum · 12/09/2014 10:53

Pinkteapots thank you. Am due at the hospital 4pm this afternoon for my induction :( getting myself really stressed out about it because of bad experience last time round. Feel really sick this morning so going to try and do some jobs round the house to distract slightly. Good luck to everyone else on getting those sticky babies out!!! Xxx

This is a bit embarrassing but I used a bit of my daughter's lactulose to get things moving.. After that things really started happening and I think it would have spared me the induction for my older daughter too.... Some of our bodies don't know about the whole 40 weeks set by the doctors so it is ok to go over a bit but I remember how I felt when my due date came and went!

pinkteapots · 13/09/2014 07:53

duzzlightyear - keep us posted! Exciting that mnetters just a little ahead of me are meeting their babies! Feel like i'm getting closer. Hope alls gone well..

EmilyRose21 · 15/09/2014 00:53

Hey ladies! I am 38+5 and am MAJORLY fed up now, I can't take it anymore! Have been reading all these posts which are really helpful and its great to know im not the only one who feels like there going mad! I'm on pineapple at the moment and doing walking, but I just get so tired so easily! Im also bouncing on my birthing ball but nothings happening. Its my first baby and my mum was late with hers, does that mean mine is likely to be overdue too?? I think I would go insane if I had to go 2 weeks over!! Haven't tried curry yet but am planning to at the end of the week. My widwife retired and im meeting the new one on Tuesday but because of the switching over I haven't seen a midwife in over a month, so I don't even know if my babys engaged!! Definitely not dropped though, shes sitting so high up under my boobs - aahhh! Xx

harrowgreen · 18/09/2014 15:06

emily - you're nearly there but if you can, you want to wait until after 39wks to give birth. The baby's brain doesn't stop maturing until then (see the march of dimes campaign last year (?) about how a 'healthy baby is worth the wait').

www.marchofdimes.org/professionals/healthy-babies-are-worth-the-wait.aspx

Once you get to 39wks though, feel free to try anything and everything!
