I found out on the 1st of Aug that i was pregnant, and i worked out my dates and assumed i was around 4-5 weeks.
When i saw my midwife, she told me no, i was 11 weeks and i'd be booked for a scan.
I hadn't gained weight, i know my god damn periods.
Today we went to my first scan, and surprise surprise I am 9 weeks pregnant. I am so annoyed that the midwife wouldn't listen!
Now family are telling me, oh its just a mistake etc, but 4 weeks is a big bloody difference is it not? The baby is fine, nice heartbeat etc, but I just feel annoyed that the midwife refused to accept my dates and listen. Is this normal?

Why did she think you were 11 weeks? Surely she will only go off what you've told her based on your lmp?

How many weeks pregnant you are is initially work out by the midwife using the first day of your last period. When was the first day of your last period?

The 12 week dating scan gives you a more accurate date (allegedly!)

I really don't know why, she asked for the last few months dates. My last period was on the 1st of july!
The lady who performed the ultrasound was taken aback, i thought something was wrong - she was like, 'Hm, this is wrong, there must be a mistake, the baby is too small.'
I was like, is something wrong, she said 'No not at all, but your certainly not 13 weeks, you're about 9, see how tiny it is' then pointed out this little blip which was the heart!

Was there a reason the midwife used the first cycle of your previous cycle, rather than your 1st July cycle?

It seems that's what happened. Maybe in discussion you mentioned a lighter of different period in some way?

Not to worry anyway, it's no big deal.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I can't understand how your midwife got 11 weeks from those dates! Was she new?

Very odd. But not to worry, you knew you were right! Congratulations by the way!

My dates were also wrong -though only by two weeks. I told the midwife that my cycles are quite long but she explained that to start with they measure from the start of the last period but is often adjusted at the scan -as she said would probably be the case. Better thinking baby is further on than too far behind and you can always go back for another 12 week scan.

No, i was clear about my periods, nothing out of the ordinary. It just felt as though she was treating me as though i was young and clueless tbh. A week or two i would understand, but four weeks?
