No date for ELCS at 35 weeks

Not sure when is usual to be given a firm date for delivery by ELCS but I have a birth plan review at 36 weeks after which I was told I would be given a phone call to book me in sometime during week 39. It seems a bit late for an elective, also from what I've seen lots of people seem to have their date a lot sooner. I have twin DDs aged 4 just starting school, my DH needs to arrange time off work (he is temping at present) and parents who will have to travel a long way and book accommodation to be here for the birth so I'd really like to have some more notice than a few days so we can make some plans. Can any of you lovely ladies advise me when you received your dates and what if anything I should say to the hospital to try and book one in please? Thanks xx

I got mine at 28 weeks because I needed to organising nursing care for my son who is disabled. I'm now 33 weeks and booked for 15/10. I just called and explained situation they were really helpful but said they usually give date at 34 weeks xx

I had an elective for my first due to a metal plate in my pelvis, and I was told they would do it as close to 40 weeks as possible unless there was a medical reason to do it earlier, so 39 weeks may well not be that late depending on your circumstances. Mine was done at 39+4. Does seem quite late to still not have a date though!

When I had DD dates for ELCS were not given out until you were 37 weeks.

I'm not in the UK but I'm having one too and they've told me they want to do it before 38 weeks and not given me a date. I'm 36 weeks today and will be 36+6 at my next appointment! I'm fully prepared for that to be my pre op assessment as oposed to a normal appointment!

Mine was given at the 36 week appointment with my consultant and was done at 39 weeks which I was told was the earliest they will do it. I'm in the uk too.

Thanks evryone, sounds like 39 weeks is standard for UK. I have appointment at 36 weeks to review birth plan so hope to get a date then. Midwife said this morning this is standard and they usually do electives on monday or wednesday which narrows it down a bit. Thanks for all your comments xx

Research shows babies born by elcs after 39 weeks fare better in terms of their breathing and ability to breastfeed - any mother delivered before 39 weeks by elcs in our trust receive steroid injections prior to the op for babies lung development

I was given my ELCS date when I was 21 weeks. The plan was to do it at just under 40 weeks gestation but a month before the planned date it was bought forward by a week and it was fine when I was 39 weeks pregnant.

Iwas given my date at 15 weeks but my consultant said that they would not want to do it before 39th week as there is a chance that the baby could go in to respiratory shock, mine was 38 +6 and that waa early enough from consultants point of view (not mine) spd and bp going haywire!

Hi Op, although my ELCS was agreed and confirmed at 23/24 weeks, my surgery date wasn't confirmed till 34 weeks. If I was you I would start pushing them now.
