Bedding for crib- what do we need?

We are using a crib (in theory!) for the time baby will be in our room, it was delivered today so I am trying to sort bedding now.

I have fitted jersey sheets for the bottom, and various cellular blankets. But beyond that, I am not sure what we need. Do we need a waterproof mattress protector and flat sheets as well?

We have swaddling stuff and grobags for once baby is big enough.

Thanks!

Waterproof mattress protector is a good idea, otherwise all you need is undersheets and blanket or grobag.

Fitted sheets are better for underneath than flat sheets, possibly a sheet if a blanket is going to be too warm and cellular blankets.
I would make sure the mattress protector is breathable around the head end of the mattress, just incase baby is sick, you dont want it to pool by their face in case as they choke on it... (sorry always a worry wart)

Thanks both of you, I wasn't sure if we needed flat sheets for under the blankets so if I don't that is one less thing to worry about, I am hoping the baby likes being swaddled as I am a tad nervous about blankets and things. I will get some flat sheets for warmer days, but as it is a Nov baby and our house isn't the warmest I don't imagine we will get too many warm days.

Good point about the mattress protector being breathable. Thanks!

dont count on being able to swaddle. mine hated it as he likes his arms above his head. he was also small (6lb 11) so too small for a grobag for quite a few weeks.

I used a blanket but no sheet. but a sheet would make a good layer as it will be cooler (mine was a june baby).

Flat sheets are on the list just in case with that in mind, thanks :).
