Revived a letter today about an appointment with an anaesthetist. I have no idea what this is for...any ideas? I have not spoken to my midwife yet about birth plans....The appointment is for when I'm about 30 weeks.

Are you high risk for any reason or have back problems, are overweight, anything else? If high risk it is usual to have an appointment in case of needing a spinal quickly so that they can assess you.

Overweight and have a medical condition....so yes probably high risk although I haven't been told that officially.

That will be it. Nothing to stress about, just making sure they right people know about any potential issues. You really should have been told you are high risk though and told what would happen, that omission is rather poor.

I haven't had too much contact with the midwife yet. ..Thanks for clarifying! I had been panicking it meant an automatic c section!

I had an appointment with the anaesthetist, too, due to back problems. He just asked about my back pain and previous treatments and talked me through the different pain relief options (G&A to epidural) and possible additional side effects of certain procedures. Really nothing to worry about.

Weight issues and things like EDS where you're resistant to local anaesthetic would warrant an appt. I had DD with undiagnosed EDS, thankfully didn't have an epidural but the local didn't work properly for being stitched afterwards.

I had one with DD1 because of a past back complaint.
