12 week blood test

Hi

Had my 12 week scan and nuchal fold test last week and all was ok.
When I saw the hospital midwife afterwards, she also took a blood sample for supplementary testing to more accurately assess the chance of Downs Syndrome.
She said there were indicators in the blood that would assess risk. However, I have mislaid my booklet about ante-natal tests and can't find out exactly what this test is.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the standard combined test. Your age, nuchal measurement and blood results are all put together to give a risk ratio for chromosomal problems like. Downs.

My understanding is the blood test is also for downs. They combine the nuchal measurement, bloods and other factors including age to give you a probability measure

Thanks.

I think my age was a factor as to why it was offered this pregnancy and they didn't bother last pregnancy.

Just wasn't sure if it was a diagnostic test or not, but doesn't sound like it.

No, it's just a screening test. It may not have been offered last time as it's relatively new and it's taken a while for all hospitals to get up to speed with it and to offer it routinely to all pregnant women. You should get a call within a week if you are found to be high risk, otherwise probably a letter within a couple of weeks.
