How accurate are baby weight predictions?

I am 36+3 and have a very prominent but normal sized bump and an active baby, though I don't know its gender. It is my first so I have no previous experience to go by.

Today the midwife told me she thinks from my measurements my baby will weigh around 3.5kg or the top end of 7lbs.

Has anyone else had the size of their baby predicted and how accurate was this? I am interested to know!

Yes I got told this too by several staff during the checking process after the 'alarming' readings. They said the baby would be head down at a slight angle and might have curled up their legs. Scan confirmed this.

I had to go for a scan at 39 weeks as my bump hadn't 'dropped' and because I am only petite. They could only tell me that they baby would be minimum 7lb10 and maximum 9lb10 (she was 8lb 12).
