Should say I will be having it at FMC in London. Any experiences would be welcome.

hi incy ,
i had one done 4 eyars ago with DS and kings college. it was a strange experince as i had about 4 doctors in the room and the head of the unit professor Kross*** ( not sure how to spell it but top in this feild) - he was holding my hand, i would explain the procedure as quick and it didnt hurt it just made you feel a little crampy that day and the next. I found it easier not to look at the screen as they scan you while doing it to make sure thay are in the correct place. Told me it would take a week to get result back but they got them back within 3 days. I had a healthy DS 7 months later.

Wishing you well and Good Luck xxxx

I had a bad one and a good one. bad one at 14 weeks. rather inexperienced dr. she kept jabbing around and not getting it, which hurt rather. and she gave up in the end as she thought she might spear the baby.

went back a week later and had one by an expert. took about 2 seconds, didn't hurt. it was quite a different experience.

good luck!

Thanks to you both - that is reassuring. I am a coward and I was dreading a lot of pain/blood

I've had 2 both were at kings college hospital, at aorund 12 weeks, dd was 2001 and again with ds in 2004.
It wasn't really painful just uncomfortable, I didn't look at the screen whilst it was being done, but they show you the babies heartbeat afterwards to reassure you.
Can't remember getting result with dd but think it was in the day. Ds result was a shock because it was 8 o'clock in the evening, I was lucky to have good results both times.
I was having them because I had problems with a first pregnancy that resulted in a termination.
It put my mind at rest and let me enjoy both pregnancies.
I asked the sex and they told me, but that it obviously down to wheteher you would want to know.

I've not had a cvs, but i've had 2 amnios, which were uncomfortable rather than painful. good luck, x

HAPPYFACE · 20/09/2006 16:18

Actually I had three, I didn't count the one I had just before the termination

I just had one today! was absolutely terrified but it was fine. I didn't look at the screen but could feel a slight pinch as needle went in (more uncomfortable than painful). Scan took about 10 -15 mins but actual procedure only took seconds.

Try not to worry, easier said than done I know (I was really going into one about it but honestly was fine!). Good luck.

Thanks to you all - dizzymum I think you have been very brave ! Best wishes.

I had one, like dm said, felt a little pinch. I did look at the screen and it looked really alarming - lots of jiggling the needle about.
Had a little bit of soreness/bruising, took 2 weeks altogether to away. We got the results 24 hours later.
Good luck.
