I have read in all the books that weight gain in 1st trimester should be 1-2 lbs.

However- I have already put on 4lbs in first 8 weeks! I feel really bad- I am not being perfect but I swear I'm not eating THAT much more!

Also in the morning I look relatively normal (just a bit fat) but by the end of the day I swear I look 5 months gone! Anyone else had this or am I all alone in fatland?

Nope I'm with you glitterkitty... I'm sat at my desk with my fat trousers undone... urghhhhh. I'm 8 weeks today, and have already been on a "well known auction site" and purchased a pair of maternity jeans and a pair of black work trousers!!! And no, I'm not eating that much either, infact I'm being sick most days so it doesnt make sense at all!!!

With my first pregnancy I put on a stone int he frist trimester because eating was the only way o fnot feeling sick. I didn't put on that much more in the second and third though so it evened out.

dont be sad

you can deal with weight gain after the baby is born, after bfing etc

i fyou are concerned speak to the mw, please dont do anything drastic like start a diet

i bet you are glowing

Hi Glitterkitty,

I feel your pain! I put on half a stone in the first trimester - and am currently up to 2 stone at 34 weeks so not sure where it's all going to end I was pretty thin to start off with though - about 8.5 stone - and the midwife said that thinner you are, the more you will put on. Don't worry, it's all about growing your baby at the end of the day - don't diet and eat what your body is telling you too!

HTH

I always gain loads when preg - lost it by bf. I even got too big for biggest size maternity clothes - ahh! (check out Isabella Oliver as these were fab)I had a thyroid problem from about 32 weeks.

I was the same this time round, I wasn't even 6 weeks before my DS's nursery teacher had asked when I was due. I was nearly sure I was either having twins or I was way out on my dates, and at 9 weeks when I felt the baby for the first time I was convinced I must have been a good month if not two months ahead, but 12 weeks scan showed otherwise! I am glad to say that eventually the growing did slow down a bit, and now at 30 weeks I am just about 'normal' size.

twocatsonthebed · 19/09/2006 11:10

I know exactly what you mean about being normal at the start of the day and like a barrage balloon at the end - I was just the same and consoled myself with the thought that it had to be water retention, not fat. Made me feel better, anyway.

And the books can only tell you the average. I put on most of my weight in the first trimester (and now have the arms of a Russian shot-putter), but somehow stopped at about 16 weeks, and am now being told that I'm quite neat at 34 weeks, so go figure.

I havent been sick at all- in fact I'm really enjoying my food. Maybe thats it! Oh dear. Glad to hear Im not the only one. My books say 'oh you'll look JUST the same but with bigger boobs' Huh. If only. Never mind.

I'll just try and wait it out and hopefully (as some of you mention) I'll slow down! I keep thinking work are gonna notice my big belly- not telling them until 12 weeks- by that time I doubt they will need telling. LOL!
