I am having a period of insomnia,am only 5 and a bit weeks pregnant and only found out last week,I am pretty certain I have cleaned out the hamster cage twice since pregnant, just googled to check if there were any things I should be careful of with hamster and read about some awful virus called LPCV.
Had anyone ever heard of this? The only advice I ever remember being given about animals during pregnancy was about cat litter trays and lambing sheep (neither relevant to me).
Anyone know anything about this??
Totally freaking out now!!!

You'll be fine. Dr Google is not your friend...step away from your computer lol

I have a whole load of animals (cats, dogs, spiders, hamsters and rats) and continued to care for them all as before throughout my pregnancy and beyond. I'm looking at my 5 week old now so can confirm no harm came to him. Just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and be careful not to breath in loads of the bedding dust. If your really worried, speak to your GP or Midwife.

You'll be fine, just wash your hands afterwards and don't eat the hamsters :)

Thankyou!
Dr google is terrible and I normally resist but I never think too rationally at the mo in my middle of the night insomnia periods!
What freaked me out was it was on March of Dimes which generally isn't too bad from memory. Was hoping it was a US thing though as no mention on NHS site.
And Coolcat I've had odd cravings in previous pregnancies but never hamster so I'd say he's safe enough!

Wash your hands with soap and hot water all will be fine! Seriously, think how minging the bus or commuter train must be, we use those.

Hamsters don't cause miscarriage.

Just as ever, it's sensible to wash hands frequently but don't get frightened. If you're anxious, use marigold gloves and a hand wash after.
