protein shakes while pregnant?

I usually struggle to get through a typical shift without at some point having to have a break for a snack. But now I'm finding myself constantly hungry and as the restaurant is very busy, it's hard to get a break to have a little bite to eat.

I read on the net that protein shakes are great at keeping you fuller for longer and alot of people who do long energy consuming shifts often take one to work with them. I eat really healthy already, but I don't eat alot of red meat, I'm just not a fan. Would it be safe to have a protein shakes while at work? I'm just at the end of my first trimester.

Thanks :)

Probably depends on the ingredients - some have stuff in that I'd want to check out first.

Nuts are a really good snack if you're struggling :)

Proper natural food is a better option, but if you must have protein shakes I think the advice is to pick a whey protein one without any artificial sweeteners, and avoid soy protein. It is nearly impossible to find ones without artificial sweeteners though.

I avoid them as I read that there is some suggestion of a correlation between taking protein supplements and having a very large baby. I'm quite small, I'm not keen of birthing a whopper!
