Just as title says, I've been googling (stupid I know) pictures of breech born babys and the legs seem a bit odd like up round ears, they only found out on Friday I'm having a c section Monday they wanted to do a scan but said they would do it on the day instead. I know I shouldn't google but I couldn't help it! Curiosity got the better of me but id rather be prepared than shocked.

Hi, my ds was breach. No lasting effects and have a gorgeous nearly 3 year old. I also googled at the time (its hard not too I know!) But don't worry no weird legs! Lol
Also, c section was a very positive experience. Good luck x

I was breech. My legs are not my best feature, but definitely not because they're "odd" : ) and from what I've seen in photos they weren't at birth either.

Thankyou I have seen sum odd leg pictures on goodle like legs right up by head and I thinking that's what I'm feeling inside more than arms which I first thought! Suppose I'll know Monday but I'm kinda worried she might be a little bent in the middle and my ds is going to freak out when he sees her!

My dd was "franks breech" which is ankles by her ears completely folded in half I kept seeing pictures of babies born unable to put their legs down, no problems what so ever, hip scan done but I think that's routine with that kind of breech, literally would not have known she was breech and she was breech right from the off!

If a baby is breech, they scan the hips for a while to check the hips are okay. The neck can be unusually strong.

DS at 18 has totally normal legs and was the earliest of mine to walk (the others weren't breech, and were VGAC births).

AnitaManeater · 11/08/2014 23:25

I was a frank breech. At 35 and rather overweight I can stand with my feet together, legs straight and put my hands flat on the floor. No other symptoms.

ColdTeaAgain · 11/08/2014 23:40

DD was extended (frank) breech, legs and hips are fine.

Her hips did take a little while to relax and she had to sleep on her side as legs would stick straight up in the air and she roll onto her side anyway. Midwives all commented "oh you can tell she was a breech!"

We were told to ensure she was in the frog leg position as much as possible. Slings and cloth nappies are great for encouraging this.

Also, steer clear of bumbo seats, door bouncers and baby bjorn type carriers for good hip development.

Ds was breech (footling I think) & he lay with his knees drawn up to his chest for quite a few weeks post birth, but soon relaxed them down. He also had a hip scan to check all was ok at 8 weeks old. No concerns & no further issues with his legs. Try not to worry & good luck!

MultipleMama · 12/08/2014 08:10

I've had 3 breech babies, all have good strong hips :)

ilovepicnmix · 12/08/2014 08:12

My DS was breech and his feet were up at his ears for a few days. I have some very odd photos! They cane down and his hips were scanned at 6 weeks. No problems then or now at 2yo.

My dd was breech from 26 weeks and I worried about her legs she was flex breech so sat like a little buddha with her legs crossed her legs were pulled up for the first few weeks the legs of her baby gros just dangled lol and her feet were turned in (positional talipes) but we were shown how to stretch them by a physio and now at 8 weeks they're fine she just had her hip scan on monday and everythings fine. I also agree c section is a lovely experience good luck!
