28 weeks appt - is this normal?

Hi all, I'm currently 29+1 so had my 28 weeks appt last week. As blood tests are involved I went to my Antenatal Clinic at PRU Hospital, Orpington rather than see a midwife at the local GP. This was as instructed in my maternity file - it's on a first come first served basis and the leaflet informing you of the day/time slots advised that you remember to take urine sample to every appt.

I took a urine sample but all that happened what some blood tests - no urine test, no BP, no listening to heartbeat, measurements or anything else. She didn't write anything in my file at all. I left a bit confused.

Looking at the 'Pattern of Antenatal care' guide in my file wk 28 should have covered 'Repeat bloods, breastfeeding talk, BP, Urine, measure & plot symphysis-fundal height' - so I'm a bit concerned as none of this happened and now I don't have another appt til wk 31, 6 weeks since my last proper MW appt at wk 25. I'm now wondering whether I was supposed to make a MW appt AS WELL as go to the hospital for routine blood tests in wk 28. If I was, I don't know how I was supposed to know this without being told :S

I have no reason to think anything is wrong, bump is growing steadily, movement is plentiful and symptoms are all to be expected but I was looking forward to hearing the heartbeat again and it would be good for peace of mind to know that everything was progressing as normal.

What happened for everyone else?

Hmmm think I had bloods and anti D at hospital which was a bit disorganised but I suspect I had a separate meeting with the community midwife.

Dang. I have to book my MW appts at my local GP weeks in advance as I attend a very busy surgery so I won't be able to to get one for this week now. Not sure what to do - maybe I should call MW team and ask :( Not very clear at all!

I had the routine midwife appt and they would have taken bloods too at the GP clinic where she works out of but I'm a bad bleeder so they sent me separately to the hospital blood clinic. They don't like to fuss around with my inevitable hard to find and collapsing veins. Then I got blood results at the next appointment.

Hi,

I am under the PRU as well. I am 18+6 and have been told to see midwife at GP for 28 week appoint, but have had no info re GTT which should be done at PRU at 28wk. Things do seem very confused now the hospital has been taken over. It may be worth giving your midwife team a ring, keep pushing it. I had to push to get the 20wk scan appoint as the PRU kept 'forgetting'.

Hi OP

I had my 28 wk app today. They did my bloods, urine, blood pressure, measured fundal height, poked my tummy to feel which way baby is lying and listened to and noted down baby's heartbeat rate.
I was there for quite a long time as was also asked about any problems and was advised on ways to help my PGP.

Oh,

I had blood tests at the hospital, and then a week later a meeting with the community midwife which had all the routine stuff plus we discussed the results of the blood tests.

Bother! Silly phone! I also got the delightful anti d injection too.

Thanks all. Spoke to ante-natal clinic and it sounds like I was supposed to get all the other stuff done at the same time but 'she probably just assumed I was only there for bloods'. Maybe me asking her if she wanted my wee sample could have been a clue? I also told her I was there for standard 28wk tests when she asked what bloods. I wish they would help a bit more - they do this for a living whereas this is the 1st baby I've had, I don't know their processes unless they tell me!

They forwarded me through to my midwife team to ask about getting seen this week but I just had to leave a voicemail. No call back yet :(

Glad that they are going to sort things out for you - it's a poor show though that you've had to chase them up xxx
