Hi all I rang my doctors last week after finding out me and the hubby are expecting our first after 8 months of trying, the receptionist told me that the midwife at the doctors is on holiday and I cant get an appointment on till 25th of September I have worked out I will be about 14 weeks pregnant by then!
Should I ring and ask for an earlier appointment? Or wait its my first time so I'm abit clueless on things but should I not have a scan by 12 weeks?

Thanks in advance x

Congratulations.
At our surgery you just book in with the midwife and not the GP. You will be have to see the midwife anyway xxxx

Pick a local maternity unit and self refer, far quicker.

Call hospital maternity. If the hospital doesnt scan you before then they get fined. They should sort it out for you.

When my midwife was on holiday, other ones covered her surgery appointments.

The receptionist probably doesn't understand the process. Get the number for your local community midwife and self refer. There should be a pool of midwives serving your area so someone will see you.

That's not acceptable. You need to have your booking in between 8-12 weeks (remember the 1st 2 weeks if being pregnant were the 2 weeks before conception) ideally so that your scan can be done by 14w 5d at the latest if you want the combined test for Down syndrome. That's the nuchal fold and blood test.

Spoke to lady on reception as I will be 8 weeks this week from date of last period im now booked in for this Thursday x
