Don't use apps etc' - maybe ask your MW next appointment.

I was told an extra 300-500 (depending on lifestyle) a day in the 2nd/3rd trimesters. Before that just eat as usual because you might well go 'off' food.

But that was my MW for me and I am shorter than you so there may be slight variation.

You don't need any more calories until close to the end. That said, I'm always starving in the first trimester. As long as you eat sensibly you'll be fine.

I found substitutions a useful mental tool. Whereas I may have had something sweet after dinner once a week before pregnancy I now fancy something almost every day. My new options are either a bowl of live yogurt topped with frozen raspberries, sliced banana, honey and seeds or 2 peaches or plums. Stock up on healthy foods (I love aldi's super six) but don't restrict volume of food eaten.

You need no extra calories until your third trimester. Then you need the equivalent of an extra banana each day.

A lot of people need to eat more often so will end up eating smaller but more regular meals/snacks.

Heatherbell1978 · 11/08/2014 19:20

Just eat as normal but try and be healthier if you can. My appetite hasn't really changed being pregnant and I haven't had any cravings/aversions so I've just eaten as I normally do. I've provably eaten less if anything as I find I get fuller easier. I'm now 39 wks and have put on 2 stone on total. Don't go with the 'eating for 2' thing. That's how women put on too much in pregnancy.

You need to add about 350 calories additional only site.pishposhbaby.com/blog/2014/07/17/pregnancy-myths-infographic/

I agree with Heatherbell about eating normal 3 times a day meals but keep your food choices healthy.

deenamathew · 12/08/2014 10:27

In the second trimester you should up your daily calorie intake during pregnancy by 350 calories and towards the end of the pregnancy you can have 500 calories a day

squizita · 12/08/2014 11:45

Deena Re you sure? I have both MW and consultant care and both said that was a myth. 3rd trimester, 300 more per day is all that is needed.

I am not overweight and am on medication which can (not in my case) lead to small babies so I would think they would not underestimate it.

squizita · 12/08/2014 11:50

Sorry meant about the 2nd trimester. 3rd I know it is 300-500 depending on height/weight but they're pretty laid back.

KittyandTeal · 12/08/2014 11:53

I was always told you need no extra until 3rd trimester then it's only 200-500 cals (depending on weight etc)

I was determined to stick to this while pregnant but found I was starving in 1st and 2nd trimesters. By the third I was so massive I couldn't eat a whole meal as dd was so big she got in the way of my stomach! I remember crying because I so wanted a curry, I managed a few spoonfuls and was full!
